You were the finest father a son could ever want and a hero that survived when so many didn't. Without your survival my baby sister and I would not be here. On Discord tonight. I met a twenty-something (senior in college). Talking about Dungeons and Dragons. He asked what “the social atmosphere” was in 80’s D&D. My answer, there was none. We were into the quest. We wanted to be challenged by the dungeons. 1/2

Good morning you lovely lot ☕️ And just like that… the bank holiday is over and most of us are back to the grind. Alarms are going off, lunches are being packed, and somewhere in Britain a man is already pretending his laptop won’t switch on. Meanwhile the media weather maps are showing biblical colours again… “danger to life”, “amber alerts”, “possible end times”… while here in Yorkshire we’ve looked out the window and gone: “Ooooh… gorgeous day this.” No drizzle, sunshine out, barely a breeze… the wheelie bins haven’t even moved an inch 😂 Anyway, brew on, head down, survive Tuesday and remember… we’re already closer to Friday than we were yesterday. Have a good one you lot 👍

Just wanted to say hello to those of you who chose to follow me over the past couple days. First of all, thanks for the follow. Happy to have ya here. I sometimes talk politics and social issues but a majority of my stuff on here revolves around JRR Tolkien, Middle-earth and the restoration of the Western canon.

Don’t miss it folks! So much here for fantasy gamers of all types, even if you’re not looking to trade out your system or your setting. The tools and add on systems are great for any game already in progress. But the cores rules themselves are a marvel as well.

I'm in Wales, covered by that giant freakish blob of doom on the map. It's a nice May day. First weekend THIS YEAR that I have not had my heating on. It is, "a bit muggy", as we like to say. Certainly not requiring the colouring in I'd reserve for a illustration of the Abyss or Hades...

So, jokes aside, to understand why the heat is worse in the UK than say Arizona for example, the answer is quite long... First it's the Humidity, it's far higher here. The UK's island location and prevailing south-westerly winds bring moist sea air, so heatwaves are often humid rather than dry. In contrast, many of the hottest US states (e.g., Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico) have dry desert heat where sweat evaporates quickly, so you actually feel cooler despite higher temperatures. Even humid US regions (like the Southeast) usually have widespread air conditioning to offset it. Second, the buildings and Infrastructure that we have all are designed to Trap Heat, not Release It. UK homes are built for cold, damp winters: thick brick/stone walls, heavy insulation, small windows, and designs that retain warmth. During a heatwave, they turn into ovens, solar gain through windows builds up, and there is poor ventilation or passive cooling features like overhangs, shutters, or light-coloured roofs. Plus, poor air conditioning: Only about 5% of UK homes have AC (vs. ~90% in the US). It's not standard because it's rarely needed most of the year, but during spikes it's a nightmare. Also, retrofitting is expensive and tricky in old terraced houses or listed buildings. This extended to public transport, schools, offices, and even hospitals as they often lack cooling. Finally, most importantly, we have zero acclimatisation. Meaning it's just as hot at night as it is during the day. Britons aren't physiologically or culturally used to sustained heat. We're properly white! So, a sudden jump from typical UK summer temps feels extreme, and the body struggles more without gradual adaptation. Heatwaves often bring "tropical nights" (temps staying above 20 °C), so homes don't cool down overnight. You can't sleep, recover, or anything which just compounds fatigue, dehydration, etc. Drier US heat often cools significantly at night. That is all topped up with the fact that we have longer summer daylight at the UK's higher latitude meaning more hours of solar heating. Hope this long explanation that no one wanted clears this right up...

My grandfather passed last Monday. He fought in Vietnam, it changed him deeply. It's a sad thing he is gone, but he lived a good life. He is with my father now. I'll remember him now every memorial day. Replies limited cause I'm just sharing with the world he was a good man.
