I rejoined the Roblox OSS Discord for about five minutes, then immediately left again. The entitlement and tone from one particular user in there was exhausting. I genuinely don’t understand how people still choose to engage with that energy.

@RootieDaHoodie @EchoZenkai Ik its so annoying! Its like everyone there got the biggest ego, they are always right and they can do or say whatever. The most annoying thing is that people will agree with them!

@VarsityRebel @jandelRblx Sadly this is the case, and even though I know this, I will always try to make fun and creative games, I don't want to go down the rabbit hole of brainrot and flashy UI to grab younger audience attention. I want to make and play fun, creative unique games!

People are allowed to - and should be - upset that these types of games are being pushed when Roblox once valued creativity. I respect the work that goes into them; they’re replayable, and the psychology behind them is smart. But let’s not pretend they’re high-quality. At best, they’re app store-level, not the kind of expansive, genuinely creative games we grew up with and can now achieve on Roblox. We grew up with games we kept coming back to because they were fun and creative, not because they were addictive. Meanwhile, countless incredible Roblox games that take advantage of Roblox's features to create high-quality, genuinely enjoyable games get little to no spotlight because they don’t exploit short attention spans with brainrot or manipulative tactics. So many developers are chasing these trends - “brainrot” and “retro slop” - to pay the bills. I get it, but doesn’t that go against why most of us started developing in the first place? Genuine passion. It’s okay to respect these kinds of games and the success they’ve achieved, and it’s great that Roblox has grown so much in the past year - but let’s not overpraise manipulative tactics and money-grabbing. And please, don't take this as a hate comment because I played Grow a Garden for a week straight before getting bored and realizing how stupid it was that I was standing around doing nothing but waiting for a shop to restock. My problem isn't with the popularity of these games, but with the general direction the platform is going in. I suppose the problem, really, lies with subpar parenting and Roblox prioritizing cash flow over their playerbase. Same old.

The reoccurring sentiment on Roblox for the last 7 years has been “all the front page games suck”. Right now we are experiencing the most explosive growth the platform has ever seen, largely driven by the games the developer user base call cringe or bad. There has never been higher quality games across the platform, if the front page isn’t your cup of tea there are games with 10-200k ccu which may be. My core tenant of Roblox development has never been to dismiss the front page as trash, but humbly study and work out why these games have 500k-2m ccu on it. If you are a developer who says this game shouldn’t have 2m CCU on it, you are just as bad as the traditional game industry that has dismissed Roblox for years. Now AAA has two options to either catch up or partner with established Roblox developers as there traditional franchises fail to capture 10% the scale Roblox games do. People have no idea how much disruption is occurring in front of their eyes right now.

@TimSweeneyEpic Welcome to Y-Up, right hand rule. Smaller question: X-Left or X-Right or X-doesn't matter?.... Roblox has been X-Right since launch, so we effectively put -Z as forward. This is programmer art from 20 years ago :-).

Indeed Unreal Engine is moving to Left-Up-Forward coordinates everywhere, starting with UEFN, and coming to UE5-6 in an incrementally-adoptable way through UI settings and C++ helper functions/macros to ease the transition. This will align Unreal with Y-Up, right handed standards of USD and glTF. Why? Because future 3d tools and ecosystems will be increasingly interoperable and standards-based. There are a lot of missing standards we’ll need to propose, and Team Unreal will be far more successful proposing new things if we adopt and add to existing standards and conventions. The USD-glTF-Maya-Houdini quadrant is the center of mass for complex code-art-pipeline tooling that is highly sensitive to coordinates. (Flipping coordinates when exporting from AutoCAD or Blender is easy enough; changing a movie vfx pipeline is not). Coordinates based on project settings sound like a have-it-your-way compromise but are a combinatorial mess when projects are a mix of code modules and content packages from many independent authors. The best time to make this change would have been 1995, but I believe the second best time is now with the launch of Scene Graph in UEFN.

They changed the orientation of axis in ortho view in #UE5.6. Is the LUF coming here too?
