I'm going to be in D.C. twice this coming week: once at George Washington University, to give the Philosophy Department's annual Elton Lecture on Friday March 27 at 4 pm, and on March 25, to speak at the Cato Institute, from noon to 2, for which one has to register. At the Cato Institute I'll be questioned about the political implications of my ideas about mattering. cato.org/events/matteri…

Statement from the Nobel Foundation One of the core missions of the Nobel Foundation is to safeguard the dignity of the Nobel Prizes and their administration. The Foundation upholds Alfred Nobel’s will and its stipulations. It states that the prizes shall be awarded to those who "have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind," and it specifies who has the right to award each respective prize. A prize can therefore not, even symbolically, be passed on or further distributed. For additional information, please refer to the Norwegian Nobel Committee: nobelpeaceprize.org/press/press-re…

In the South Carolina Lowcountry, issues arising from heirs’ property result in tremendous property loss and depletion of historic rural Black communities. Heirs’ property stems from African Americans acquiring land shortly after the end of slavery.
