I bought a Tesla. Never thought I’d get an electric vehicle, but took a ride in a buddy’s Tesla and changed my mind. I’ve been using the supervised self-driving mode for my daily commute into DC. It’s pretty amazing. Today the car suddenly moved into the left lane, very abruptly. In that split second a very large piece of debris blew into the lane I had been in. The Tesla self driving system saw what I couldn’t see. When I drive I can only see from the perspective of the driver side front seat. The Tesla has multiple censors with different angles of view. It saw what I couldn’t. Importantly, even I I had seen it at the same time, the split second that it would have taken me to check blind spots and then consciously make the decision to move over would have taken too long. The Tesla knew all these variables simultaneously and almost instantly and was able to avoid impact safely. Well done @elonmusk and @Tesla team.

Tesla says "preparations for our first large-scale @Optimus factory will begin shortly in Q2. The first generation line, designed for 1 million robots a year, will replace the Model S and Model X lines in Fremont. We are also preparing Gigafactory Texas for the second generation line, which is being designed for long-term annual production capacity of 10 million robots."

Tesla FSD subscriptions went up 51% in Q1 2026 to 1.28 million, an increase of 180,000 from Q4 2025.

New pet hedgehog icon. • Visual Updates: The center display now features higher quality images of your Tesla, and an enhanced park scene environment. • Trips: Trips are now in the Energy app, where you can create and manage multiple trips to track energy usage across different drives, routes, or conditions. • Blind Spot Warning Accent Lights: Accent lights now turn red when an object is in your blind spot and your turn signal is engaged, or when an approaching object is detected while parked. • Music App Queuing: Swipe right on tracks in Apple Music or Spotify to add them to the queue. In Apple Music, tap and hold on a track to add or remove from Favorites. • Automatic Software Updates: Your Tesla can now automatically install downloaded software updates overnight. When enabled, updates will install while your Tesla is parked and not in use, ensuring you always have the latest features and improvements. • Dashcam Viewer Updates: Recent Dashcam footage can now extend up to 24 hours, and you can save any clip for permanent storage on your Tesla or on your phone. Clips stay on the vehicle and are never shared to Tesla. Clips downloaded to your phone now include details such as speed, steering wheel angle, and Self-Driving state. Downloads require Premium Connectivity and Mobile App version 4.55.6 or later. • Weather Maps Improvements: Weather maps now show snow and rain with improved colors that make it easier to distinguish between precipitation types. You can also view the past hour of weather data to see how conditions have been changing along your route. This feature requires Premium Connectivity. • Supercharger Pricing Filter: You can now choose to route only to Superchargers with Tesla pricing. When enabled, Trip Planner will avoid locations where Tesla does not set charging prices or accept Free Supercharging credits. • Keyboard: Your selected keyboard language will also select the language used for dictation. Tap the international keyboard button to change keyboard and dictation language, without changing voice command language. Tap the mic icon in the keyboard to dictate. • Sketchpad: Unleash your inner artist with the enhanced Sketchpad, now supporting stickers and emojis. Save your sketches to access them in the Mobile App and share. Requires Mobile App version 4.55.6 or later. • Security Improvements This is update 2026.14.1

Tesla's Optimus V3 robot hand looks to have been revealed in a new international patent published today. The patent describes a tendon/cable-driven hand: • Actuators in the forearm • Each finger has 4 degrees of freedom • The wrist has 2 degrees of freedom • Tendon-driven system: 3 thin, flexible control cables (tendons) per finger run from forearm actuators, through the wrist and into the fingers. • Advanced wrist routing: Cables switch from a lateral (horizontal) stack on the forearm side to a vertical stack on the hand side, plus a transition zone to minimize stretch, torque, friction, and crosstalk during yaw/pitch movements. • Integrated control cable channels in the finger segments and precise routing (behind some joints, forward others) for selective bending. Nine billion miles of driving data just became a chip. Tesla AI5 is finalized for production. The design files are at Samsung in Texas and TSMC in Arizona. The transistors are locked. There is no going back. Tape-out is the hardest gate in semiconductor engineering because everything before it is reversible and everything after it is silicon. How this particular chip was designed is the most interesting part. Nvidia builds general-purpose GPUs. They pack transistors into a full-reticle die, ship it with CUDA, and let customers figure out which operations matter. Blackwell B200 delivers 4.5 petaFLOPS at up to 1,000 watts. It runs any model for any customer. That generality is the moat and the tax. Every workload pays for circuits it never uses. Tesla designed AI5 backward. They started with 9 billion miles of FSD inference data and asked one question: where does the neural network waste cycles? The answer was softmax computation and quantization precision loss. Two specific mathematical operations that consume disproportionate silicon area and power in every general-purpose GPU on Earth. Operations that Nvidia cannot optimize away because other customers need those transistors for different workloads. Tesla hardened them. Burned custom quantization and softmax accelerator blocks directly into the die. Five times more efficient on those operations than any general-purpose equivalent. Then they added 10 times the raw compute and 9 times the memory capacity relative to AI4. The result: a single AI5 system-on-chip delivers roughly 5 times the useful compute of the current dual-chip AI4 configuration at an estimated 250 watts. Musk has framed a single AI5 as Nvidia Hopper class and dual AI5 as Blackwell class for Tesla workloads, at 3 to 5 times better power efficiency and roughly 10 times better performance per dollar. This is not a chip designed to compete with Nvidia. This is a chip designed to run one thing: the learned differentiable physics engine that emerged from 9 billion miles of camera observation. Every transistor serves that engine. No wasted silicon. No generality tax. The neural network wrote its own hardware. The chip goes to two foundries. Samsung in Taylor, Texas. TSMC in Arizona. Both American. Musk thanked both this morning and added: “It will be one of most produced AI chips ever.” Samples arrive late 2026. Volume targets H2 2027. In the same post, Musk confirmed AI6, Dojo3, and “other exciting chips” are in active development. The 9-month cadence is real. AI6 targets tape-out by December. Dojo3 restarts on the unified architecture after Musk shut down Dojo2 last August as an “evolutionary dead end.” Intel joined Terafab eight days ago for advanced packaging. The $16.5 billion Samsung deal runs through 2033. The chip that taped out this morning is not a product. It is the physical crystallization of 9 billion miles of learned physics into transistors optimized for the exact mathematical operations that physics requires. The software trained on the road. The silicon was designed from what the software learned. And the factory that will mass-produce it is being built in the same city where the cars that generated the training data roll off the line. The loop is closed.
