Blame IDW that's what started it all with Elita, on the flip side due to Ultra Magnus having PTSD, Arcee recently became Arcee Magnus in an earlier book. But she actually had to under go tests and prove herself, unlike Elita where it seems the Matrix is testing her after the fact. I get the storytelling direction they are using I just think it's been poorly executed. It's the classic "So you think you can do better?" storytelling trope, the Matrix's own choosing of Optimus was called into question by Elita so the Matrix is giving Elita the chance to prove she's right and Primus, the Matrix and Optimus are wrong. She's going to learn her lesson the hard way. On a more meta level the Matrix exists to light the darkest hour, and Elita is most definetly in her darkest hour.

I’m sure this is temporary. But how did Elita-1 go from being a footnote in Transformers continuity to The Main Character (TM) in newer media? She’s in everything now. RIP Arcee.
