LAKERS' FLOOR & CEILING HAVE GONE UP!
Before the season, the Lakers were a starting small forward and backup center away from being a legitimate championship contender. After struggling during an opening night loss to the Warriors, the Lakers have rebounded strongly to win four of their last five despite no LeBron and Luka Doncic missing three games.
Considering Luka is playing at an MVP level, Austin at an All-Star level, and Rui, Deandre, Jake, Marcus, Vando, and Knecht all solidly contributing with major reinforcements coming when LeBron, Maxi, Adou, and Gabe come back from injury, the Lakers may already be a legitimate championship contender.
The Lakers still need to make moves to get bigger defensively with a elite 3&D small forward at the top of their shopping list followed by a shot blocking backup center. The ascension of Doncic and Reaves has likely lowered what the Lakers need via trade but that's balanced by the fact that Reaves is now untouchable in trade unless it's for a legitimate superstar.
Kudos also have to go to JJ Redick, who, starting with the exit interviews last season, has choreographed what's starting to look like a Lakers championship season. JJ has pushed the right buttons and LeBron's injury serendipitously opened the door for both Luka and Austin to take their games to another level.
The Lakers have been on an amazing run the last year and a half. Last year, they miraculously landed their next head coach genius, next mega superstar, and next billionaire owner. This year, the Lakers may have finally found the first homegrown Lakers superstar since Kobe Bryant, the Black Mamba.
No disrespect to Brian Scalabrine but Austin Reaves is the 'real' White Mamba.

Thoughts so far on the Lakers? Even if the team started out healthy I’d be pleased with this record but given so many guys have missed games everyone should be really happy with this start.

ARTICLE CONCLUSION: 'DO NOT TRADE REAVES'
Unless a prospective suitor forks over an All-NBA-player-in-his-prime package for Reaves, the Lakers should let his future ride into free agency.
Yes, this leaves open the possibility he leaves for nothing. But Los Angeles can offer him more years and money than any other team. Depending on LeBron James' future, it can also promise Reaves a permanent promotion to their No. 2 option.
Shopping him in advance of the Feb. 5 trade deadline would be more appealing if he didn't make so little. Even if you are prioritizing draft picks, it is hard to recoup adequate value for someone earning just $13.9 million when you're hard-capped at and brushing up against the first apron.
Obvious exceptions exist. If the Milwaukee Bucks come calling and want Reaves, salary filler and however many picks and swaps the Lakers can offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo, then, yes, you make a move.
Failing another front office pulling a Nico Harrison, though, there's a chance Reaves is more valuable to the Lakers on his next contract—as both a core piece and trade asset.
