My dad went to meet a friend of the family the other day at the nursing home; guy's 106 years old, born 1919. Mentally sharp as a tack, but I guess people who hang on that long often are. He was 9 when the Ford Model A emerged. No substitute for the first-person memories he has.

I've spent more than 35 minutes trying to explain the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon to a 14-year-old and almost half of that time was spent describing the corded desk phone. When the discussion turned into describing rotary phones, I am pretty sure that one of us had a stroke.
