There was no year 0. We went from 1 BC straight to 1 AD.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is aware of the active shooter at the Islamic Center of San Diego in the City of Clairemont. We are actively assessing any potential threat to Los Angeles County, and we have implemented increased patrol checks to critical facilities. All patrol personnel will be briefed on the incident for situational awareness and will remain vigilant.
We will also be reaching out to our faith-based partners to encourage the prompt reporting of any suspicious activity. Violence has no place in our society, and we remain committed to protecting our communities in Los Angeles County.

First, understand some basics. There is a reason that all authoritarian societies around the world expand pretrial detention as one of their first orders of business. It is one of the main ways that unjust and undemocratic societies throughout modern history target marginalized populations and, especially, dissidents who threaten those in power. I explain why in my books Usual Cruelty and Copaganda. But the basic point: One of the most important markers of the level of democracy in a society is the extent to which pretrial liberty exists and the extent to which the presumption of innocence is protected.
Second, Only the U.S. and the Philippines have for-profit commercial bail industries. Here, a multi-billion dollar industry often decides who is free and who is separated from their children in cages prior to any criminal trial based on their access to cash.
Third, there are over 500,000 people in jail cells awaiting trial right now, most of them illegally. This is why we win the constitutional cases we bring across the country: most ordinary people are shocked when they learn the lack of rigor that is applied to such a devastating decision.
Fourth, there is overwhelming evidence--think climate change levels of scientific consensus--that more pretrial jailing makes people less safe. It increases crime, destroys children's lives, and has catastrophic effects on public health and the economy. There is no empirical debate that increasing pretrial liberty is one of the single best public policies across virtually every domain on which one could measure a policy.
