I paid for a blue tick. I didn’t need to, I don’t really use any of the premium features. But I want to support @elonmusk because what he is doing matters, and having a free speech X/twitter has arguably changed history. So thank you, Elon, and take my money.

Japan's theft is rare because it's 98% ethnically homogeneous, creating unmatched social trust and conformity. Stealing shames your family and group in a shame culture. Kids learn honesty early via strict norms, Buddhism/Shinto values, and group harmony (wa). Low inequality, visible koban policing, 99% conviction rate, and broken-windows enforcement on petty crime seal it. No open borders diluting that. High-trust, low-diversity works.

The current state of the Royal Navy: 2 aircraft carriers — neither operational. 6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus). 7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational 5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?). Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged. Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy. Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation.

@afneil In the budget trade-off stakes, free housing for foreign rapists is more important than the defence of the realm

So…the new X-Files did the thing “nobody is doing on purpose”. Mulder now Indian, Scully now Black. Interesting isn’t it? 🤔

Reform UK said I was 'bullying' when I pointed out their colleague was jailed for beating up his former partner. Now, they're trying to sneak him back into their party. So I'll say it again: James McMurdock was jailed for beating up his former partner. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

"I don't blame jury trials at all." That's the verdict of Sir Brian Leveson - Chair of the Independent Review of Courts - when I asked why trials are taking so long. So why is David Lammy and the Government scrapping jury trials for so many?

Man who was shot by police dies after female officer having a “mild anxiety attack” takes the first ambulance that arrived at the scene Dyshan Best, 39, was shot in the back last year while fleeing from officers in Bridgeport, Connecticut A state inspector general report found the shooting was justified because Best had a gun and the officer feared for their safety The first ambulance arrived 14 minutes after the shooting but was used to take officer Erin Perrotta to the hospital Paramedics said Perrotta was “visibly hysterical (crying and breathing rapidly) and had blood all over her uniform.” They also said she declined treatment in the ambulance sayinh, “I am fine, I just needed to get out of here.” A second ambulance arrived at 6.12 p.m., and Best was taken to the hospital at 6.22 p.m. He died at 7.41 p.m. from injuries to his liver and right kidney

@ExpatCayman Can you tell me why a Jewish baby born in Hebron will have full civil rights and a vote and a Palestinian baby born there will not? When the occupation is stated to be permanent, as Israel has said it will be many times, it would be dishonest to call it anything else.
