In 1888, power and religious struggles forced Kabaka Mwanga II to exile his Nephew Prince Nuhu Mbogo Kyabasinga who was an important figure in the history of Islam in Uganda. Mbogo was exiled at Bukasa Island in Ssese lslands where he lived for nearly ten years until 1897.

Masaka High Court building is said to be among the few structures which survived the 1979 bombing that brought almost all structures of Masaka town down during the overthrow of Idi Amin. For many years, the it has served as the only high court in the region. #ExploreMasaka🇺🇬

Inside Villa Maria Proto-Cathedral besides the Altar lies the remains of the first African Catholic Priests, Rev. Fr. Basil Lumu (1913-1946) & Rev. Fr. Victor Mukasa (1913-1979), ordination to death respectively. The Cathedral is Just 10km from Masaka CBD along Bukomansimbi road

Masaka Diocese came into being with the Apostolic Constitution Quemadmodum ad Nos of Pope Pius XII, on 25th March 1953. Bishop Joseph Kiwanuka was transferred from the titular see of Thibica to Masaka. He was made the Archbishop of Lubaga in 1961 & was succeeded by Bishop Ddungu

St. Theresa Girls Sec. Sch. Bwanda- Masaka is one of the traditional Schools in the South of the Equator. The school was started way back in 1925 (100years ago) and built on a strong Catholic Foundation by the Daughters of Mary Sisters (Bannabikiira) of Bwanda in Masaka Diocese.

St. Padre PIO Prayer Center was opened in 2018 after one of the strong Catholic believers was impacted by the legacy of Padre Pio, that prompted him to donate 5 acres of Land at Misaali Hill in Masaka. It's the 2nd Centre for Padre Pio in Uganda after the Kabulamuliro center.

Located at Bwala Hill, the Uganda Communication Commission 60 meters tall Mast was among the first Masts in the country connecting Telecommunication and Broadcasting signals in the country after the Kololo, Jinja and others. It is the tallest tower in the south western region.🇺🇬

The two Red painted buildings on the left are said to be the first storeyed buildings in Masaka town, located along Elgin Street near Total Masaka with unique history of construction in the early 1990s. Up to date, the buildings still exist. When was your last visit to Masaka?

This is the home where St. Bruno Sserunkuuma was born. It's located at Ssaza-Masaka a short distance from the Buddu county headquarters. He was born in 1856 to Mr. Kizza Kibuuka Majalya Namujulirwa who was the Buddu county chief. He died a Martyr on June 3, 1886. #VisitMasaka🇺🇬

St. Charles Lwanga SSS Kasasa- Kalungu, is a Catholic Founded traditional school started by Brothers of Christian Instruction on 1st Feb 1955. It started a Juniorate school training boys with intention of joining religious life. In 1967, it became a fully-fledged Secondary Sch.
