Iran’s judiciary said on Thursday it had carried out the execution of Amirhossein Hatami, a protest detainee convicted in a case linked to a fire at a Basij base in Tehran during January protests. The judiciary said Hatami had been arrested in connection with the fire at the Kaveh Basij base on Damavand Street. Iran International previously reported that five detainees in the same case had been moved from a general ward in Qezel Hesar prison to an undisclosed location for execution. The other detainees named in the report were Mohammadamin Biglari, Shahin Vahedparast, Abolfazl Salehi and Ali Fahim. West Papua - once Dutch New Guinea - is home to over 300 distinct Melanesian tribes. Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically unique, they’ve faced decades of systematic violence under Indonesian rule. Since the 1960s, estimates suggest 100,000 to over 500,000 indigenous Papuans have been killed. Entire villages burned. Children starved. Women raped. Life expectancy in some areas is 30–40 years. THE SHAM OF "DEMOCRACY" In 1969, under the UN-brokered “Act of Free Choice”, just 1,025 handpicked Papuans voted - under intimidation - for integration with Indonesia. Critics call it the “Act of No Choice.” Dissent was crushed with bombings, arrests, and executions. The UN endorsed it anyway. DECADES OF ATROCITIES Mass Killings: Operations like Clean Sweep (1981) killed up to 13,000. The 1998 Biak massacre saw over 200 shot and dumped at sea. Recent drone strikes continue to kill civilians, including children. Torture & Extrajudicial Executions: Beatings, electric shocks, mutilations, and targeted assassinations like Theys Eluay (2001). Rape & Sexual Violence: Used systematically to terrorize, including girls as young as 3 years old. Forced Displacement & Starvation: Over 100,000 Papuans have fled into jungles or across borders to escape violence. CULTURAL ERASURE Indonesia’s transmigration program brought millions from Java and Sumatra, diluting Papuan culture and power. Indigenous Papuans went from 96% of the population in 1971 to barely 40–50% today, while corporate and military interests exploit land, forests, and rivers. WHY THE SILENCE? The UN calls abuses “shocking,” yet international governments remain quiet. Resource interests, geopolitics, and fear of challenging Indonesia’s sovereignty keep this genocide invisible to the world. THE BOTTOM LINE This is not history. This is ongoing genocide, systematic cultural erasure, and state-sanctioned violence. While headlines scream from Gaza, West Papua bleeds in silence. There’s a lot of hatred towards Israel right now, and I think a lot of people are looking at this situation with absolutely no historical perspective.
No country on Earth would tolerate what Israel has lived with since 1948.
We’re talking about a country that was invaded the moment it was created. Multiple wars. Suicide bombings. Bus bombings. Rockets fired into civilian neighborhoods. Children growing up with bomb shelters as a normal part of life. Sirens going off and people having seconds to run for cover. Hostages taken. Civilians massacred.
And people expect them to just sit there and do nothing?
Americans talk big about freedom and security, but the truth is Americans could not live like that for 70+ years. If rockets were being fired into Texas or California for decades, if terrorists crossed the border and killed 1,000 Americans in one day, the response would be overwhelming and it would not even be debated. It would be finished quickly and decisively.
But when Israel responds, suddenly the world holds them to a completely different standard than every other country on Earth.
Another thing people don’t want to talk about is history. The Jewish connection to that land is not something that started in 1948. It goes back thousands of years. Archaeology, recorded history, ancient kingdoms, temples, language, culture - all tied to that land long before most modern countries even existed.
Meanwhile countries like America, Australia, Canada - we can’t even make that same historical claim to the land in the same way.
So if we’re going to be honest and fair, we have to be consistent.
Either every country has the right to defend its citizens and exist in security, or they don’t.
But singling out one country in the world and expecting them to live under constant attack, constant terrorism, constant threats of destruction, and then condemning them every time they respond is not fairness.
That’s politics.
