@1BrownEyedGirI @JTAlexander So you would of course not mind if men consumed nothing but drawn pornography then, right? No women are being exploited there

@JTAlexander I don’t disapprove of sexual desire. I disapprove of exploitation and misogyny. Not something that difficult to grasp but alas…. “The absolute state of men”🤣🤣🤣

@animeoutsiders This all buys into the pretty common archetype of the pure slut. I.e. a girl that acts forward and sexual like a slut but is actually a pure good girl

@garnierfructis_ @HowlingCalvin0 @PalmyrPar Droid use in Star wars is VERY inconsistent Why do we have human pilots? Why does Luke have chores on his uncle's farm instead of a legion of droids? Why does anyone work? Why do slaves exist? The slave underclass status of droids never being explored is part of the series

I think Andor is the best Star Wars can get without Lucas. You’re not going to get the unique genius of the original auteur, and trying to recreate it has been a ridiculous disaster. The best you can do is this sort of grim, new wave interpretation of an existing world that’s good as its own thing.
Kevin Lamb@KevinLamb74

I don't know who needs to hear this, but Andor's grim portrayal of homicidal rebels was dumb. Screw Luthen, Saw Gerrera, and Andor himself. Star Wars is a fairy tale. The good guys are good. Han in ANH and Lando in ESB is as gray as they get (which is to say, not very.) To say that the ends justify the means misses the entire point of Anakin's fall.

@garnierfructis_ @HowlingCalvin0 @PalmyrPar They were there illegally because they moved there illegally in an empire that doesn't allow free movement. It doesn't fit the modern narratives about illegal immigration because it's not the same situation as economic migrants illegally in another country to make a quick buck

@F1R3Commando @HowlingCalvin0 @PalmyrPar As "illegal immigrants?" I was under the impression the Galactic Empire enslaved worlds and species to work for them? instead of worrying about there being too many farmers working to feed the population of Coruscant? But that doesn't fit "modern narratives" about immigration

The biggest killer of whales in the 20th century by far was not the Japanese, nor the Canadians or Norwegians. It was the Soviets. The worst part? They weren't even using the bodies for anything. They simply had a quota for dead whales Communism is a disaster for the environment.

@F1R3Commando @HowlingCalvin0 @PalmyrPar The Imperial officer makes a big evil speech about it before he attempts to rape our Rebel hero girl, saying that the planet is short on labor and that the Empire allows illegal labor to work on the planet because it's a Netflix show and they forgot about droids and slaves.

@HowlingCalvin0 @F1R3Commando @PalmyrPar The core drama of Andor S2E2 revolves around the Empire searching farms for "illegals" and checking their "visas," though our "heroes" are rebels posing as those "illegals." The reasoning presented in the show is illegal labor, which is impossible in Star Wars, because of droids.

@garnierfructis_ @HowlingCalvin0 @PalmyrPar They didn't get permission to move, mostly because half of them are indeed rebels or criminals Ergo they are there illegally and are getting paid under the table They're both

@garnierfructis_ @HowlingCalvin0 @PalmyrPar A restriction of movement between internal states (or in this case planets) to control the population and stamp down on rebellion is pretty common in authoritarian states, the soviets famously did it They're from a planet that recently rebelled, the empire wants to keep tabs

The original ending is better because it shows Anakin as spiritually redeemed. That's the man he would've been if he didn't turn to darkness. The new ending shows regression. Anakin now reverts back to who he was before becoming Darth Vader, who was still not a good person
☀️AliquisNovus☀️@PalmyrPar

If you dislike this change, you’re a permanently Gen X nostalgiabrained doofus. It’s so obviously better to have the protagonist of his own entire trilogy return in this meaningful scene than for it to be Some Guy he never even aged into before becoming Vader.

@F1R3Commando @JadeAtrophis You give them too much credit. That is their post-hoc framework. In all reality they just love their phones and gizmos and Netflix and the idea of manual labor in any capacity frightens them. That's why they get so aghast at slavery. They don't care about freedom, only comfort.

Sulla
Sulla@spqr_sulla·
Better idea: it’s set during Vietnam. Here’s the plot Julius Caesar is a newly elected populist president. He was a famous general in the Vietnam War and considered one of the best generals of all time, but he gets popular by leveraging that to say the war is stupid and wasteful. (cf “War is a Racket by Gen Smedley Butler). The Elites want the war to continue. He runs on ending the war and bringing the troops home. Further, at this time, like the real timeline, the homeland is in disarray. Riots have broken out across dozens of major cities. Caesar, like Nixon, runs on law and order. He talks about why troops should be dying for some ungrateful rice farmers when they could be at home protecting the American people. He eventually wins in 1968 and does what he promised on the campaign. He manages to get a “peace with honor” too. He doesn’t just flee and let S Vietnam collapse, but manages against all odds to get a good peace deal and the North begrudgingly. He continues to be very popular. The people treat him like a hero. He stages a massive parade in Washington for returning troops, but at one point gets on a float himself and the people chant his name. He holds massive rallies. Several Senators make up the majority party in the Senate and become wary of Caesar. They think he is becoming too powerful and too popular. To make this believable, we will mix in rhetoric that is both anti-tyrant but also self-serving. They think they are going to get wiped out in the midterms. Cicero and Cato are part of this party. Caesar begins to flaunt his power. He begins issuing executive orders under the ruse of law and order. Maybe he’s right. Maybe America does need a strong man to bring peace to the homeland. Cicero and Cato begin talking to generals at the JSOC. While Caesar is well-likes by the “grunt” and common GI, the generals are deeply distrustful of him. Btw this really happened irl - some generals were slow walking Nixon’s decisions and this was shown in some recently released court testimony Eventually Caesar gets word of this plot and declares marshal law. He publicly arrests generals who were conspiring against him, declares them traitors, and has them executed. But here’s the thing - is this a tyrant consolidating power, or is he really just protecting the Republic by eliminating people who were planning a coup against the duly-elected President ? He also fills the streets with soldiers to maintain order. Despite all this he is still widely popular. While there is a size able anti-Caesar faction who protests and riots, his approval rating is in the high 60s. He begins talking about the enemies within. Cicero and Cato make speeches against tyranny in the Senate. Importantly these speeches have to be quite good. Eventually Caesar does a State of the Union address (this would be Jan 1970 or so). While there, he is assassinated. The anti-Caesar faction declare they have saved the Republic. Things cool for a bit, but Mark Antony rallies the pro-Caesar faction at Caesar’s massive funeral and the civil war begins.
Sulla@spqr_sulla

Idea: Late Republic Roman and Caesar's civil war but set in modern day America.
