#OTD 90 years ago, former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover personally arrested notorious gangster Alvin Karpis, aka "Public Enemy Number One." Karpis led a life of crime, but as the brains of the Barker/Karpis Gang, he remained elusive to law enforcement until April 1936, when word came that "Old Creepy" was in New Orleans. Hoover flew overnight to join the raid team, and they sketched out an arrest plan on a chalkboard. Once in custody, Hoover escorted Karpis to Minnesota to face kidnapping charges. The #FBI Phoenix Desert Hawk Fugitive Task Force has been busy this week as agents and deputies caught up with a suspect who's facing 27 counts of violent felonies and has evaded capture of late. The task force rounds up the most dangerous offenders throughout the state. The Fugitive Task Force is comprised of agents and deputies from the FBI, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and Border Patrol....and a fabulous K-9 member who doesn't mess around.

A Pinal County man is behind bars thanks to the FBI Phoenix Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. James Stacey Porter, 59, was sentenced to 129 months in prison for Distribution of Child Pornography. More: justice.gov/usao-az/pr/pin…

Francisco Juan Acevedo, 35, of Chandler, AZ, was sentenced to life in prison for First Degree Murder. On Sunday, April 17, 2022, at a family gathering on the Gila River Indian Community, Acevedo shot and killed his uncle, and shot and injured two others. ow.ly/hwEs50YNznp
