My life will never be the same after tonight’s hate crime I experienced while trying to dine out with my wife, child, and mother. We went to cheddars to break our fast and were put on a waitlist. After 20 minutes, the hostess called me to her to ask me a question. Upon walking up to her, an elderly man approached her with his hands folded and started to ask her, “don’t you all sell pork here? A lot of pork? That damn good pork?” Then he turned to me and said, “you must own this place huh, just like every fucking gas station in town?” He started to walk to the door and I followed three steps asking him wtf his problem was and why he was talking to me like that. He opened the door, turned around, and pushed me. Then he pulled a gun out of his pocket and stuck it to my head and asked me, “do you want to die Arabia?” My natural instinct was to duck down and go back. He kept walking out waving his gun. My mother grabbed me and pulled me back. About 10 people in the lobby witnessed this. The police showed up and took my statement. I am appreciative of the Lexington Police Department for their work and supposedly they were able to find out who it was and are going to his house as I write this with fear and anger in my eyes. I will say, I will never walk into cheddars ever again. The hostess found it very funny and giggled throughout the conversation of racist remarks made towards me. Obviously, the manager did his due diligence and gave us water to break our fast. Life as a Muslim-American is drastically changing due to the continuous Islamophobia we endure on a daily basis. People will never understand the high alert we must stay on when going out to eat in a restaurant. Born and raised here, never been in a life-or-death situation like this. I apologize to my family for not laughing it off and letting him just walk out of the establishment. Today, I learned my lesson and will never let my guard down ever again. I will never forget staring down a barrel of a gun. I hope they find him, arrest him, and the judicial branch upholds the law to the highest extent of the law. May god look over us all.
