Happy New Year to everybody! May the year 2026 bring stability in place of turbulence, peace in place of war, harmony in place of conflict, and above all, prosperity that includes all Indians irrespective of the accident of birth.

The vast improvement in PSB performance in the last ten years is indeed remarkable. NPAs fell from a high of >12% to a very low of about 2%. Banks' profits are at record levels. Prudent management of money - by the government and the banks - matters a great deal for our collective future. All parties should embrace the path of fiscal prudence and economic growth.
Narendra Modi@narendramodi

In a remarkable turnaround in the last 10 years, India's banking sector net profit crosses Rs 3 lakh crore for the first time ever. When we came to power, our banks were reeling with losses and high NPAs due to the phone-banking policy of UPA. The doors of the banks were closed for the poor. This improvement in the health of banks will help improve credit availability to our poor, farmers and MSMEs. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india…

The announcement of Bharat Ratna awards posthumously to three great Indians is a welcome recognition of their contribution to post-independence India. Sri PVN steered the ship of state with great clarity, deftness and sense of purpose converting a crisis into an opportunity. Dr MSS played a vital role in transforming our agriculture and achieving self-sufficiency in food grains from the perilous ship-to-mouth condition. Chowdhury Charan Singh abolished zamindari system in UP liberating millions of farmers from bondage, and steadfastly stood for farmers'welfare, integrity in public life and political competition and choice to voters. We should all celebrate their services to the nation. A nation that gratefully remembers the contribution of its true heroes will continue to inspire future generations. 🙏🙏🙏

Congratulations to all the newly elected representatives in the four major states. Free and fair elections, genuine competition, clear verdicts and peaceful transfer of power are a tribute to the strength of our democracy. While local factors vary, there are clear signals from voters in all states: 1. People want multiple, authentic leaders who rise from all sections. not monarchic style and excessive centralisation. 2. Voters want a sensible balance between short-term individual welfare programmes and long-term investment, infrastructure and growth. 3. Reckless, unsustainable, fiscally disastrous policy of unfunded OPS for 3% government employees at the cost of 97% workers is a bankrupt policy not acceptable to voters. 4. There is no real appetite for genuine political reforms - decentralisation, rule of law reform and electoral reforms. 5. Quality education for all children with assured outcomes irrespective of birth, and quality healthcare for all without out-of-pocket expenditure are not yet mainstream agendas. Our democracy is a work in progress. With a bit of wisdom and foresight we can sustain 7% growth rate for three decades; that is the greatest anti-poverty and social justice measure. People increasingly recognise benefits of inclusive economic growth. If major parties come together on growth and fiscal responsibility, we will have a great future as a country. Meanwhile we need to focus on genuine decentralisation, rule of law and electoral reform to strengthen our democracy.

Hearty congratulations to Sri Revanth Reddy and the other members of the Council of Ministers on their assumption of office. Growth with welfare, fiscal discipline, rule of law, decentralisation of power, in-situ urbanisation through development of small towns, quality education with outcomes, family physician-led healthcare with choice of doctor, investment promotion and labour-intensive industry are the key challenges. May all parties and civil society work together constructively to build a better future for our people.
