This is a big step in the right direction.
Moving away from a no-issue system is real progress, and it matters.
But let’s not pretend government permission slips are the end goal. Americans, service members included, should not have to beg the state for permission to carry a firearm for personal protection. The right to keep and bear arms is not something the government grants.
