Tenant brokers spend way too much time not wanting to share information on who their client is. If you’re not under NDA I promise it’s not that important. You’re also not going to get all the information you need from a landlord or know about potential spaces they can get back by withholding information.

Many bail Wednesday morning or over consume Monday night and skip the conference. Really a short sighted move. That last day of @ICSC are often some of my best meetings of the conference. People move slower. Less meetings. More time connecting and building real relationships.

A landlord sent over a 3-year lease. The tenant altered it & snuck in a “2,” turning it into 23 years, then signed and returned it. Landlord missed the change and countersigned…no legal remedy available. Rents have since gone up 4x. Tenant’s been saving ~$20k/month for almost 13 years, with 10 still left. Approx $1.8mm in total cash flow… Gone. Hire attorneys y’all!

People are taking the ICSC Vegas “do this / don’t do that” discourse way too seriously. It’s not Navy SEAL training. It’s a conference. Talk to people. Go to meetings. Follow up. Be normal. And yes!! Go gamble, go to dinner, have some drinks if you want to. Some of the best relationships in this business are built outside the convention hall anyway. Just don’t be the person who treats Vegas like a 72-hour blackout challenge and you’ll be fine.
