@HLTCO @GoonerGold78501 @NotEvenWounded All I’d say is that there are many examples of similar tackles this season not being red cards. The reason given is lack of force. The challenge by Kai is reckless, high and studs up, but it is not a high force challenge and that’s what saved him.

No Salah, Wirtz, Isak and Ekitike can do that to a team, of course. But it’s notable that they focused on long throws and corners for their threat, and got both goals from them.

1) Starts with RN marking MR (circled)
2) AVL pass deep, so RN leaves MR to apply pressure (arrow), and passes him off to MK (circled)
3) Ball goes wide, so MK steps out (arrow), leaving MR (underlined) free

The worst thing about these “pack the six-yard-box and swing the ball in” routines is they’re so low-skill.
Liverpool, who have been underwhelming for months, started doing this and scoring goals/winning matches. Yet the (poor) fundamentals of their team remained the same

While the laws are what they are, every team should generally be hitting their corners towards the lump of bodies on the goal line. The laws exist in service to the game, though, and I’m not sure it’s on a path to being better.

@HKhaliqueLoonat I agree with you except for the Fulham point. IMO it’s a mistake to classify a short pass FK that mimics low block openplay &results in a tap in and thereby high xG, as same as corner chaos. Insignificant set piece xG otherwise. If 1.17 xG per 45 from 6yard chaos xG then agree.

The Fulham point was re the ability to amass so much xG in a half from set pieces.
If you strip out the first goal it’s still - an extraordinary - 1.17xG in 45 mins just from set pieces.
1.17xG is meant to be hard to create

Compare the - incredible - skill under pressure Odegaard produces to create the Trossard chance with the ball that’s flung in for the disallowed West Ham goal.
One you have to work hard to create and execute. The other, you really don’t.
