@BBCSport @alanshearer @WayneRooney How was VAR to blame here? If you scrapped VAR you’d have got exactly the same outcome 😂 So much rubbish talked about it. This WAS minimum interference. And these guys wanted it to get involved. When VAR not used in cup & so many errors, they even blamed it for making refs worse

The Manosphere documentary was incredible viewing. As a teacher, seeing how easily influenced young men are, it’s deeply disturbing seeing who they may be looking up to. Thought Louis did a great job giving the guests enough to show how weak they actually are. I’d be devastated if my boys looked up to those kind of people.

The reaction to this Haaland stuff is absolute insanity at this point. The sheer volume of comments, tweets, abuse, insults etc when I had zero info. It’s utter madness. “He had his captain on Haaland all week”. I didn’t! It was literally on Bruno at one or two points during the stream and on earlier videos in the week. It was a super close call! Just because you don’t think it was, doesn’t mean it wasn’t. It’s the reason I wasn’t bothered by refreshing and being on Bruno, I liked both picks 🤷‍♂️ Just because being top 1k would change how people approach the game, doesn’t mean it does for me. The idea that someone wouldn’t captain Bruno if top 1k is just stupid. I’m human, just because I do this for a living doesn’t mean I’m always calm with my decisions, sometimes it’s last minute, it’s not acting, it’s just who I am. There are plenty of deadlines streams where I know exactly what I’m doing and I’m chill. Why don’t I also just “act” otherwise for views then? Because that’s not what I do. I’ve had so much shite thrown at me, it’s ruined my weekend, and the sad thing is, it’s all for nothing. People are angry for made up stuff in their head - I had no more info than anyone else. And now I’ll have to listen to it for a while despite doing nothing wrong. People just making stuff up -“well you must have known he was a doubt” etc. No truth in it whatsoever. The first I ever saw of it was from a tweet AFTER the deadline and I assumed it was something of nothing, until Saturday afternoon when the rumours started, at which point it was too late to do anything about it anyway. I’ve been offered info from a big Chelsea account before for money, I declined it without even asking how much. A Man United account asked if I wanted info recently, I said no. My Twitter DMs are completely shut off now unless I follow you, I barely check Instagram messages. I’m in zero FPL group chats. I actively try and avoid info like this, especially as my audience has grown, unless it’s public like the recent Haaland and Foden benchings. Not sure what more I can do. I’m just taking a lot of heat for no reason, I’ve gained zero advantage from this whole thing. People just want someone to blame, and it looks like it’s me, despite having no prior knowledge of this whole thing. It’s just sad. And yeah, it comes with the territory, it doesn’t mean it’s any more fun to have to read.

And give lino’s a purpose. Cricket style Lino’s call. If not clear they’re wrong in 30 secs it’s their on field call. And have grey area where that is the case. Would eliminate the toenail / shoulder blade ones. And as they always look onside to naked eye, would mainly be goals

@LukeEdwardsTele you and @rickedwards1 hit nail on head last night by mentioning Henry handball costing ROI World Cup spot. Always ref that to defend VAR. If used just for huge howlers like that. And Digne! Should be no need for refs at monitors as it’s for clear and obvious

I thought that @alanshearer hit the nail on the head after the Villa game yesterday: "If you ever needed evidence of the damage VAR has done to referees, today is a great example... they look petrified." He’s 100% right. We didn’t just play Villa; we played against a refereeing identity crisis last night and an over reliance on the comfort blanket of technology. ​ Basically referees have been turned into middle-managers, we all know 'the type!' They spend so much time looking for "permission" from a screen that when they’re forced to actually referee in real-time, and make a decision they freeze and bottle it. Yesterday was a masterclass in hesitation and folk not being used to having real power! 🥶 ​Look at the 'out of bounds' calls and that handball. In the pre-VAR era, a linesman makes that call in a heartbeat as he's in line with it. Now? They wait. They doubt. They look at the ref. The ref looks at them. Everyone looks at the sky. Result? Absolute chaos and I'd have been raging now if we lost that game! Digbe never moved out of the box for goodness sake so it should have been obvious! ​ The safety net, which VAR is, has become a straightjacket. Refs are so scared of being the headline that they’ve stopped trusting their own eyes. They aren't officiating the game anymore; they’re trying to seemingly survive it and let technology take over and pick up a hefty salary. ​We all wanted 100% accuracy, but we’ve traded away authority. You can’t referee by committee. When you strip away a ref's confidence to make a big call, you’re left with the shambles we saw at Villa Park. 🏟️⚖️ ​ How do we attempt fix it? Well firstly an eye test all around. Then we need to empower the on-field ref again. ​Limit VAR to being a tool only on "objective" errors (offside/goal line). ​Stop treating every 50/50 like a bloody crime scene investigation! Either that or bin off refs totally you can't have this half way house. ​ Newcastle won despite the officiating, not because the system worked. But how many games have to be ruined before we admit that 'technology' has made the humans in charge worse? 🤔 ​Shearer is right. They’re scared.
