Nico Gonzalez. A look at what the numbers say on City’s new #6 in the making - How does he compare to Rodri and Fernandinho. - Where does he excel - Where does he fall short. A thread

You think Diomande or El Mala will? I think Diomande’s ceiling is like Ousmane Dembele but he never got hurt. El Mala’s is tougher - he’s got like Vini Jr gets his shot whenever he wants against whomever he wants type of ceiling, but it’s a lot narrower than Diomande’s path. Far more often it’s Moise Kean which isn’t bad, but isn’t incredible if all that makes sense

Said El Mala in 30 seconds, for those looking for info with his Chelsea links - insanely direct/vertical; always looking to take on opponents, make runs in behind - shot hunter, heads down always looking for and successfully creating angles to shoot, action volume probably over-indexes to shots over creating for others - larger for winger, pretty physical, playing as an outside forward might be a better path for his development rather than as a traditional touchline winger - he's 19 years old, extremely raw, and benefits from the space provided in the Bundesliga; please do not expect him to light the Premier League on fire from day one

Who was our best signing of the post-TREBLE season?

@falsewinger_ No but it’s reasoning as to why Omar has been so judged on his first-touch as was Alvarez. Personally think Alvarez was the better overall player and that’s my opinion.

I’m really of the belief, purchase ready made top-level players, don’t buy kids that need years of development and will only receive heeps of negativity from fans. Semenyo, Guehi, Mbeumo, Cunha, Caicedo, Rice etc.
EverydayMUFC2@EverydayMUFC22

He’ll be 29 come summer but if you can get 4/5 good years from Bruno G it’s worth it World class player. Brings intensity, fight, leadership whilst also doing everything a midfielder can do. Even adding goals this season Bruno G>Tonali all day

@kptalksfooty Yeah of course, wouldn’t doubt there would be suitors for Gyokeres + but i would doubt the player would want the move.

@FPLrep0rts I would too, the question is not intention, but feasibility

@falsewinger_ Don’t agree personally but each to their own. I suppose I think we hold a very high standard to first touch having Doku, Foden, Cherki and Bernardo in the side — having a poor touch really sticks out. Grealish was excellent in this regard too.

@kptalksfooty I’d make that move personally unless you think it’s not essential to upgrade the striker position. But he is absolutely the best on the market imo and it won’t be long before someone else snaps him up.

@FPLrep0rts Gyokeres would be the one that has to go in this hypothetical. Jesus leaving is a foregone conclusion.

@falsewinger_ Don’t think Marmoush has a great first touch and isn’t really suited to pocket & combination play. Ball-striking, movement elite. But just feel Alvarez had a little more technically. Would say Omar is probably the more explosive one.

@kptalksfooty Worth it imo. You have to make these calls at top clubs. It’s like the Raya/Ramsdale situation. Both are good alternatives to Alvarez though, but one probably has to go unless you could repurpose Kai and there’s also still Jesus.

@FPLrep0rts It's really only feasible financially if one of Havertz or Gyokeres are let go.

@falsewinger_ Give Alvarez the slightest space and he will absolutely take advantage of it. Great at manipulating himself into getting high quality chances. Was trusted as an 8 and 10. Much more technical than Omar imo.

Part of me wonders how exciting this City team would be in the false #9 era. Cherki, Doku, Foden, Semenyo all rotating. Would be bliss.

@kptalksfooty That’s what you pay for world class players. Sacrifice others if need be.

@FPLfrasier It’s probably Bruno G’s last chance at a top end move so do wonder if he does push for that — doesn’t seem the type though. Didn’t push when City came calling. As for Tonali, I can see him going at the right price. Several of the big 6 would have him I’d suspect.

@TMtalksball If you look at the data it is really quite good for Gonzalez — OOP wise, in possesion he doesn’t quite have the progression that Rodri has in terms of breaking the lines. But assume it’ll be Reijnders, Nico G, Nico O, Rodri, Anderson next season which seems more than good to me

@TMtalksball Well yeah but the two Nico’s + Rodri together have the PNP required imo. It’s when you have Rodri as the 6 with Reijnders/Bernardo we have real frailities off-ball. Do imagine it will be Anderson & Rodri as the pivot next season.

A huge fan of Rodri and he’s still fundamentally important but I think City’s best matches this season have had Nico Gonzalez as the #6, I would play both or at very least but O’Reilly in next to Rodri.
TM.@TMtalksball

#AFC | Rodri off the ball is genuinely tragic. Rewatched some of City’s games. Also if you can sustain an Attack in and around the box. You’ll create a big chance really that simple. Runs from beyond on City’s midfield blindside is the play. Big game for our Runners too.

@FPLThorpey I’m tempted to go Bassey over Tete given how poor Burnley are with set-pieces.
