🇩🇪 TWO MONTHS AGO. On 22 May 2026, Mercedes-Benz development board member Jörg Burzer posted on LinkedIn that Germany "gets an update" on automated driving. The claim: Mercedes' urban "point-to-point" navigation — a Level 2++ hands-on system — will roll out in Stuttgart & Munich by end of 2026, and nationwide from early 2027. "In close coordination with the Federal Transport Ministry". Burzer had just met personally with Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU). 📸 Now put the two timelines side by side. 👇 ▪️ Mercedes' Level 2++ system: fast-tracked, ministry-blessed, nationwide 2027, announced with a minister photo-op. ▪️ Tesla FSD Supervised (also Level 2): already approved in 🇳🇱🇩🇰🇧🇪, but in 🇩🇪 still stuck. As of last week, the KBA is only now getting a car to "test" it and form a "German position". Same automation level. Very different treatment. 🤔 So the fair question: Is it "coincidental" that a homegrown DAX champion gets a coordinated green light and a ministerial handshake — while an American competitor's comparable L2 system waits on a drawn-out EU-wide committee route? 🇩🇪 Germany's Transport Ministry just confirmed its stance on Tesla FSD Supervised. State Secretary Christian Hirte (CDU): the KBA will receive a Tesla "still in July" for its own independent testing of the system. But no national approval like 🇳🇱🇩🇰🇧🇪 — Berlin is tying FSD to the EU-wide type-approval route instead. 🧵 The path forward per the ministry: → NL shared its approval docs with the Commission + member states → Docs now being reviewed with the KBA on road-safety grounds → A vote in the Technical Committee – Motor Vehicles → If positive, the Commission issues an implementing act → EU-wide type approval ✅ What he DIDN'T answer: ❌ Whether he'll personally push for a fast national approval Bottom line: No unilateral German approval coming. FSD Supervised in 🇩🇪 is now hitched to the EU-wide type-approval process.

Software update 2026.21.100 is rolling out slowly to European Teslas equipped with FSD. Despite rumors, it's the same FSD version as the previous release (14.2.2.6), with no FSD specific changes or release notes published.

🇳🇴 While the Netherlands tries to fast-track Tesla FSD approval across Europe, Norway — one of the world's most EV-friendly countries — is standing in the way. Because it doesn't trust the paperwork. Norway met with RDW's exemption team to ask questions. Statens Vegvesen notes that Tesla's public marketing materials do not reflect the technical documentation reviewed by regulators - as such, it denied demo-drives. Read more about Norway's position on FSD, updated on July 3rd. 1. "You're breaking the deal we all agreed to." Europe's driver-assistance rulebook, UN Regulation 171, wasn't written overnight — Norway was in the room for years of negotiations. One of the core compromises: systems like this roll out motorways first, then move to "motorway-like" roads later, as confidence builds. The Dutch approval for Tesla FSD skips that step, allowing activation well beyond motorways from day one. Norway's position: It's the deal being broken. 2. Speed limits and cornering forces — exempted. The Dutch type-approval authority, RDW, didn't just bend the rules on where FSD can run — it exempted Tesla from strict speed-limit compliance and from lateral-acceleration limits in curves. Norway says these are protections it specifically fought to get written into UNR171. Watching them get waived for the first real-world test case isn't a great look. 3. RDW's own safety verdict: "marginally positive". Marginally positive — RDW's own words, according to Norwegian officials who reviewed the assessment. 4. The marketing doesn't match the paperwork. This is Norway's sharpest accusation: what Tesla shows regulators and what Tesla shows customers are two different things. Statens Vegvesen has gone on record saying the public-facing marketing for FSD doesn't reflect the technical documentation submitted for approval — and is telling Norwegian consumers to read the owner's manual. 5. Tesla tried to demo FSD to customers in Norway. Regulators said no. Norway currently runs three Tesla vehicles under a national testing exemption. When Tesla proposed opening that up to customer demonstrations, Norwegian regulators rejected the plan — the materials, they said, failed to make clear this is a driver assistance system, not autonomous driving. Tesla was told to fix it, but the fix still hasn't landed. 6. Norway has no vote — and is still the loudest voice in the room. Norway is an EEA country, not an EU member, so it doesn't get to vote in the Technical Committee – Motor Vehicles (TCMV), where this all gets decided. It can only observe, ask questions, and submit written objections. And yet, in the most recent TCMV session, Norway was one of only a handful of countries that bothered to show up with detailed written questions at all. vegvesen.no/fag/trafikk/it…

🚨 Ministerstvo odpovědělo na naši žádost. Až po vypršení lhůty a až po odeslání stížnosti. Tři strany úřední řeči, přeložené do lidštiny: ➡️ K věci jsme neudělali nic. K vlastním třem kritériím nemáme po JEDENÁCTI týdnech žádný výsledek ani datum. ➡️ Naše „odborné posouzení": žádný vlastní test, žádný výsledek, žádný dokument. Zato dvakrát citujeme názorový článek. RDW najelo 1,6 milionu km a schválilo. My jsme si přečetli Reuters. ➡️ Nic to nezakazuje. Žádný zákon, žádné pravidlo. Brání tomu jen jejich vlastní podpis, který odmítají dát. ➡️ A přiznávají, že čekat nemusí. Čl. 39 je k tomu nenutí. Čekají z vlastní vůle. Přečtěte si to ještě jednou. Teď to mají i písemně. 🇨🇿 @Adrian_Smrcek @KRoelandschap @OndrejBacina @CybertruckEU

Už pět zemí EU schválilo Tesla FSD (Supervised): 🇳🇱 10.4. → 🇱🇹 20.5. → 🇪🇪 29.5. → 🇩🇰 9.6. → 🇧🇪 11.6. Všechny stejnou cestou: vzájemné uznání schválení RDW (čl. 39 nař. 2018/858). Žádné vlastní testy. Žádné čekání na celou EU. 🇨🇿? Nic. 8.6. jsme se @min_dopravy zeptali oficiálně — žádost dle zákona 106/1999. Lhůta na odpověď: 15 dní. Vypršela 23.6. bez odpovědi. Dnes proto podáváme stížnost dle §16a. Eskalujeme a nehodláme se nechat vymlčet. Jak vypadá poctivý postup? 🇫🇮 Finský Traficom FSD neposílá do šuplíku a nečeká na celou EU. Hodnotí ho POZITIVNĚ — „významný potenciál snížit nehody z lidského faktoru" — a posílá Tesle konkrétní technické dotazy ohledně převzetí řízení, předjíždění za snížené viditelnosti a rychlostních limitů. Takhle se to dělá. Ne „počkáme na říjen" 2.6. ministra dopravy formálně interpelovala i poslankyně @PiratkaSramkova — ptá se na totéž: vzájemné uznání, nesmyslné číslo 275 vozidel, harmonogram, výbor 30.6. bez hlasování. Pane ministře @BednarikIvan, otázka zní pořád stejně: Co konkrétně brání převzetí schválení RDW? Vzájemné uznání existuje. Stačí ho použít. 🇨🇿 @Adrian_Smrcek @JungmannJan @OndrejBacina @CybertruckEU @elegantnikuryr @KRoelandschap

The Dutch vehicle authority (RDW) ‌has released a statement after it received criticism for approving @Tesla's FSD (Supervised). "The RDW carefully assessed and tested this driver assistance system before approval was granted. As part of this process, we analyzed and evaluated data from vehicles that had been driven in Europe. We also collected and assessed our own data and continue to monitor the performance of this system on the road. The RDW did not rely solely on Tesla’s data; we also carried out extensive testing ourselves using our own test equipment. Over a period of more than 3,000 hours, testing took place both on test tracks and on public roads, under a wide range of conditions, including complex and busy urban traffic, a broad variety of road types, and different - including extreme - weather conditions. This included the use of data from 1.8 million kilometres driven in Europe with FSD Supervised. The RDW’s own tests — comprising more than 1,000 test runs — were conducted in accordance with European regulations. The Tesla data used by the RDW also complied with those rules. The RDW independently assessed and validated the process used to collect the data. Through these tests, the RDW gathered objective information and verified the manufacturer’s data. The RDW does not base its assessment solely on information provided by the manufacturer. We carried out extensive independent investigation. On the basis of this overall process, the RDW concluded that the system meets the applicable requirements. As a result, a European type approval valid for use in the Netherlands was granted. Safety is the RDW’s foremost priority. This Tesla driver assistance system supports the driver to a greater extent than other systems because, when activated, it takes over multiple driving tasks. The proper use of driver assistance systems makes a positive contribution to road safety by supporting the driver in performing driving tasks; it is intended as an aid to the driver. Owing to the continuous and strict monitoring of the driver in the vehicle, this driver assistance system is at least as safe as other driver assistance systems. We have thoroughly assessed and tested this system over a period of more than 18 months." Full statement linked in thread below:

🇪🇺 Major move by Europe's top road safety watchdog: On June 12, ETSC - known as FSDs greatest enemy - sent letters to Transport Ministers across nearly all EU member states, urging them to pause recognition of Tesla's FSD approval until key safety questions are answered. Their 4 core questions: ❓ Is FSD independently proven safe — and free of new risks? ❓ Why adopt a system under active US federal investigation? ❓ How was driver overreliance assessed over real-world use? ❓ Who investigates if something goes wrong in Europe? Countries that had already accepted: 🇧🇪🇩🇰🇪🇪🇱🇹 — did not receive the letter. etsc.eu/letter-tesla-f…

🚨 Reuters: Tesla allegedly presented misleading FSD safety data to European regulators in Sweden and the Netherlands. The inflated stats — claiming FSD is 7x safer than humans & could save 32,000 lives — were called out by independent researchers as unrealistic & invalid comparisons. RDW says it doesn't rely on Tesla's marketing figures. Just another typical Reuters headline, or is there something to it? EU-wide approval still requires 55% of member states to vote yes. The path just got bumpier. 🇪🇺

🇪🇪 Welcome on board, Estonia! The Estonian Transport Administration has granted the Dutch type approval for Tesla's driver assistance system. The Transport Administration recognizes the type approval for the Tesla FSD system issued by the Dutch road transport authority, RDW. That makes 3 countries in the EU so far! transpordiamet.ee/uudised/transp…
