@cash_mccarty @ianmSC That's what they do. When "winners" lose, they say to themselves, "I lost. I blew it." When "losers" lose, they congratulate themselves on what a wonderful job they did while losing.

Not sure that this is an efficient model, requiring everyone to pay for services that they won't/can't use. Insurance companies are REQUIRED to provide the benefits, so they need to charge for it. It stopped becoming a risk mitigation strategy, which is the entire point of "insurance" and people started expecting it to cover everything. It's now just financing. "Free" preventative services means that insurance pays the entire bill. You expect them to eat that? No, it all gets charged back in premiums.

@Faakew2 @HarlemJ11 @LinkofSunshine It's true that most (~55%?) of the new coverage was Medicaid expansion and that many shifted plans. But health care costs grew less in the aftermath. The net effect was higher premiums/deductibles for healthy/high middle income, but better coverage/less junk insurance.

@MTumarkin @MatrixMysteries Indeed, economic ignorance is the biggest problem we have. Or more to the point I guess, is ignorance of human behavior. I don't know how one can go through life expecting some magical government to support you when you can no longer, or don't want to continue working.

@Faakew2 @MatrixMysteries Unfortunately I have several friends who retired at 65 not realizing that it wasn't full retirement age and blamed Trump! They got angry when I pointed out that the age chart was updated during the Reagan administration!!!!!

An American grandmother just opened her Social Security check. She was barely scraping by. Then $185 was taken out for Medicare. Now she’s looking for a job at 67. Yet there are states that offer FREE healthcare to ILLEGAL immigrants.

So if I don't carry health insurance, get cancer, I should be able to go by a policy that covers it after I get sick?? How do you think insurance companies stay in business? I mean, who would buy health insurance if you don't need to? Just get sick, buy a policy, then drop it when the illness is mitigated? Just because you don't understand how the world actually works, as opposed to your child-like understanding of it, doesn't mean that insurance is a scam.

@Faakew2 @LinkofSunshine And that doesn’t work because then there are no restrictions on what health insurance companies can do to people who get sick. They will dumb them for a made up preexisting condition. It’s what they did before ACA and if you get the government out they will do it again.

Here's the plan...get government out of the relationship. Sell across state lines. Permit minimal plans for catastrophic-only coverage, high-deductible plans, let people choose their coverage levels. But midwits don't want to hear that, you still believe that there's an undiscovered, magical government solution that will make someone else pay for all your healthcare and only rich people will foot the bill.

@Faakew2 @LinkofSunshine Look at what healthcare costs were doing before. They were going up at an even faster rate. Republicans have spent the last 15 years destroying healthcare and blaming democrats. Republicans still do not have a plan. They never do. They don’t want anything to get better

Hey Americans on here chiding us in other countries for criticising Trump: he is our business. Petrol in Australia is in short supply & currently costs $2.48 p/l (that’s $9.37 p/gallon.) We didn’t bomb Iran. We are all suffering because of your stupid President.

Canada is literally the only G7 country without high speed rail. Conservatives want you to continue to pay sky high prices for gas, worsen congestion on roads and make your commute hours longer. We've been "studying" high speed rail for 50 years - time to get it built.
Scott Robertson@sarobertsonca

Pierre Poilievre on the Toronto–Quebec City High-Speed Rail Network: "Conservatives oppose the $90b Liberal-Alto train ... a future Conservative government will cancel this $90b boondoggle altogether."

@LedenUnor @LinkofSunshine So, to rephrase your point; it's the Republican's fault because the Dems came up with a plan that no one read, no R voted for, could not pass Constitutional muster, cancelled existing plans, couldn't work as designed and increased costs? Those dastardly Republicans again, huh?

@Faakew2 @LinkofSunshine It did slow the increase. Every legislative attack eroded the plan, the plan they were supposed to improve over time. Insurance used to have a lifetime max payout, and wouldn’t cover or accept those with pre existing conditions. The Rs messed up.

Ah yes, if we just give TOTAL control to the government, it will all be magically better. Just like the ACA, right? That worked out so well. Medicaid LOSES money for hospitals, so if you want FULL government control, expect either massive increases in costs or massive hospital closures.

@MaverickS0210 @LinkofSunshine And millions lost their old plan. That aside, total expenditures show an almost doubling, are you telling me that we DOUBLED the people that had insurance? Show me where costs went down, by ANY measure, which was the promise.

Almost double? No. Quoting individual stats, like "more people got coverage" hides details like many millions LOST their old policies because they no longer qualified. So now they're on an ACA plan, which is often quoted as a "new coverage" success, when they were happy with what they had. No matter what stat you want to quote, costs have gone up considerably, contrary to the promise. Not to mention the other lies used to sell it.

The most irritating thing about leftist idiots bitching about attacking Iran is that they always pretend like there's some magical solution to stop them from sponsoring terror attacks around the world. Gee, if only Trump had tRiEd DiPlOmAcY. Like this hasn't been going on for decades with no change.

99.9% of people who "experienced" the Challenger disaster saw it on replay and now remember it as live. Almost NO ONE was watching. Everyone thinks they were. It's a fascinating collective false memory.
Jeremy London@SirJeremyLondon

Anyone who experienced the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion, like I did, is probably a bit hesitant to get too excited about the Artemis II launch today. I truly hope our children don’t have to experience such tragedy. May the Universe welcome them and return them safely home 🙏
