Feels like the Giants had no choice but to trade Dexter Lawrence (he didn’t want in on Harbaugh & Dart) but if they want any chance to compete in 2026 they need to dip into their future cap space to sign Calais, Reader and Harris. F it. All of them. Can’t win in NFL with no DTs.

@carlymersky Barkley could have stayed. He had the right to be FA and he did. Dex had 2 years left on 20 million per year deal. Tanked all of last season and has let it be known it’s not about money he wants out , so not Giants decision to trade him

The #Giants’ situation with All-Pro DT Dexter Lawrence is not in a good place and has not been for a while.
While money is a big part of it, another element is that Lawrence has seen many players leave the organization over the years. He’s stayed quiet, been a good soldier, and tried to be a team guy.
So when it became clear last year that he had outplayed his contract and it was time for a new deal, the organization not taking it so seriously felt like a slap in the face. That has continued this offseason.
In the words of one source: “He understands what those players who were shown the door by the Giants felt.”

Giants stance on this, as of right now, remains the same as it’s been: He’s under contract for two more years.
The Giants will not trade Lawrence unless they get an offer they believe is appropriate, justifies moving on from him.

As noted here, Dexter Lawrence signed $90M extension in May 2023 that kicked in for the 2024 season.
I’ve seen NYG accused of dragging heels on Dex.
When should they have ripped it up?
2024 offseason when it didn’t kick in yet?
2025 offseason when he was recovering from elbow injury?
Now off last year?

@nickfalato Dex signed the extension and got every last cent of guaranteed money. And last year and 1/2 he was hurt and then sulked at ate his way to being grossly out of shape and mailing in season last year WHILE still cashing in on extension.

The issue is that the Giants are ready to win as far as I’m concerned, they have a quarterback in place. They made the right moves to improve around him and they have the defensive coordinator and coaches in place. If they trade him now that all goes out the window and you won’t get good comp.
