Prime Minister Barzani attends condolence ceremony of couple martyred in Iranian drone attack Prime Minister @masrourbarzani attended the condolence ceremony of Musa Anwar and his wife Muzhda Asaad, who were martyred by an Iranian drone attack last night in Zargazawi village. The Prime Minister expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the families and relatives of the two martyrs. In a press conference, the Prime Minister said, “Once again, innocent people in Kurdistan are attacked without justification. A husband and wife were martyred, which grieves all of us. We extend our condolences to President Barzani and all the people of Kurdistan.” The Prime Minister reiterated that this is not the first time the Kurdistan Region has been attacked without reason. He stressed that those whose hands are stained with the blood of the people of Kurdistan, sooner or later, will face justice. He reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region remains committed to the path of its martyrs for the freedom and dignity of its people, and will continue to defend its citizens and the homeland. He thanked the people of Kurdistan for their patience and support, and expressed hope that this war and suffering will come to an end and that the Kurdistani people will achieve their long-held aspirations. The Prime Minister also noted with regret that the federal government has taken no practical steps to stop these attacks on the Kurdistan Region, adding that a great responsibility lies with the federal government to prevent these terrorist attacks.

I am deeply saddened by the news of a drone attack on the residence of a Peshmerga family in Erbil, which resulted in the martyrdom of him and his wife. I condemn this heinous crime in the strongest terms and denounce its perpetrators. The targeting of civilians and civilian homes is a war crime. We will convey the voice of the victims to the international community to help end the oppression and the unjustified attacks against the people of the Kurdistan Region.

A significant day of talks in Damascus – today, a bilateral format with President of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa @AH_AlSharaa took place, as well as negotiations involving our teams, and there was a trilateral discussion – Ukraine, Syria, and Türkiye @HakanFidan. We are building new relations, new opportunities, and expanding our efforts to ensure security. We managed to cover everything: from security and defense issues and the situation in the region caused by developments around Iran, to energy and infrastructure cooperation between our countries. We will also continue work on food security. We discussed in detail how to overcome the consequences of the war, as well as the negotiation process regarding Russia’s war against our state and our people. I am grateful to all Syrians who welcomed us today. Ukraine was among the first to support a new Syria after the fall of the Assad regime. We are ready to continue supporting stability and development. We will work even more closely together so that our peoples and our countries become stronger, and so that our economies can grow stronger as well. Thank you!

I strongly condemn the heinous attacks by terrorist militias targeting the U.S. Consulate General and civilian areas in Erbil. These deliberate acts of aggression pose a grave threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region. This is unacceptable. I once again call unequivocally upon the federal government in Baghdad to take immediate, decisive, and tangible actions against these outlaw armed groups and militias. It is incumbent upon the federal government to use all means to thwart these terrorist attacks and bring those responsible to justice.

Thirty-five years after UNSC Resolution 688, the people of Kurdistan still remember the international support that came at a time when genocide, displacement, and oppression threatened our survival. That support helped save lives, open the way for humanitarian relief, and lay the foundation for the Kurdistan Region as it stands today. We will never forget the sacrifices of the past and the support of our friends.
