'Bay' The merest hint of a pastel sky yesterday evening here on the Island.

93 years ago today, the last remaining islanders on St Kilda left for the mainland. The islands have an amazing human and natural history and are a world heritage site. Notoriously difficult to visit due to the Atlantic weather. We had a perfect day to visit in June this year!

93 yrs ago today the 36 remaining St Kildans set sail from Hirta, evacuating what had been a permanently inhabited island for millennia. We can only imagine the mixed emotions as they watched their home disappear into the Atlantic horizon #StKilda #evacuation @N_T_S @HistEnvScot
