In what are sure to be crowded 2028 presidential primaries, "the incentive will be to build a small, intense base of support & outlast those trying to win broad approval." Ranked choice voting primaries "would incentivize unity & decency." – @ChrisStirewalt in @thehill ⬇️

Good work, if you can get it. That work being a member of a well-organized interest group, of course @thehill. thehill.com/newsletters/wh…

Yesterday’s Illinois primaries saw some of the most crowded races the state has seen in years. Many nominees won despite getting much less than 50% of the vote. Here's a breakdown of those results & how ranked choice voting would give voters more choice AND majority winners 🧵

A pair of powerful OpEds were published in Illinois this week shedding light on the state's primaries (which are happening today!) The Editorial Board at @chicagotribune writes, "Here’s the thing about primary elections in the Land of Lincoln and, especially in the Democratic stronghold that is the city of Chicago: In race after race, they are not the appetizer course but the entire prix fixe...You can’t do anything about gerrymandering at Tuesday’s election. But guess what it makes it worse? When only a fraction of eligible voters decide all-important primaries." Read more: chicagotribune.com/2026/03/17/edi… Todd Connor of @OperationVAV writes in @Suntimes, "Democratic candidates in Illinois and their consultants invest staggering sums of money to target those reliable Democratic primary voters, knowing that whoever wins Tuesday in this “blue” state will easily win in November when the main election, in name only, takes place. Every candidate knows what the voters often miss: that the action is in March, not November." Read more: chicago.suntimes.com/other-views/20…

"We’ve accepted a system where the primary is the only election that matters, yet it’s the one where the fewest have a voice." With ranked choice voting, Illinois "can move to a system where every vote is a meaningful one." – @OperationVAV co-founder Todd Connor in @Suntimes

In 2020, Alaska moved to a nonpartisan Top Four primary system. The results since then have been a revelation. Should Illinois move to a similar model? chicago.suntimes.com/other-views/20…

Our choose-one elections reward politicians who only listen to a narrow base & engage in toxic politics. 88% of voters say politics is broken. Members of Congress are frustrated too, quitting en masse. #RankedChoiceVoting & #ProportionalRepresentation can flip the incentives.
FairVote@fairvote

A record number of members of Congress are quitting. Why? Because it's not just voters who are fed up w/ gridlock and toxic politics. FairVote CEO @MeredithSumpter explains how ranked choice voting can make Congress work better for all of us. ⬇️

It’s Super Mario Day! Imagine if Mario only had one power up the whole game. No mushrooms. No fire flowers. No stars. That wouldn’t be much fun. Voting shouldn’t be limited either. Ranked Choice Voting lets voters rank their choices, so elections reflect what voters actually want. More options. Better outcomes. Learn more at rankmivote.org
