To sum up: Doug Ford used a majority won with less than a majority of the vote to ram through a law hiding his cellphone records after a court ordered to hand them over. We need proportional representation so politicians cannot use artificial majorities to conceal corruption.

Whether it's disallowance or the notwithstanding clause, first-past-the-post puts “nuclear options” in the hands of politicians who don't represent large parts of the country. Proportional representation adds a vital check by requiring broad consensus before these can be used.

First-past-the-post means Conservatives rarely win in downtown Toronto, just as Liberals rarely win in rural ridings. Proportional representation means that whether you’re an urban Conservative or a rural Liberal, your vote counts and regions aren’t dominated by one party.
