Yesterday, my company announced salary increases for everyone. The office erupted. People were hugging each other. Some were already planning vacations. Others were talking about finally buying things they’d been putting off for months. Then I noticed one coworker sitting alone in the corner. He wasn’t smiling. He wasn’t celebrating. He was crying so hard he couldn’t even clap. Out of nearly fifty employees… He was the only person who looked completely broken.
