Pope Leo XIV addresses the African refugee crisis in Lampedusa Italy, describing mass migration as a “serious problem” requiring global attention and respectful treatment of those affected. This sounds like a reasonable approach.

Look up Dorothy Day and St. Francis of Assisi on this matter. You will find no greater advocates for the gospel value of poverty and yet equally no greater advocates for the use of only the finest man can offer to God for public worship. The reason is quite thought provoking.

Walking through the Vatican, I remember saying to my mom, “This is absolutely gorgeous… but it feels like it goes against everything Jesus taught.” The gold, the gilt, the pageantry, the guarded walls, the lavish robes, the opulent altars, the unimaginable wealth… it’s breathtaking, but hard not to wonder how any of it aligns with a man who preached humility, simplicity, and detachment from earthly riches.

My landlord raised my rent $340. I asked why. "Market rate adjustment." I googled my landlord. He owns 34 properties. Manages them through 3 LLCs. Lives in a $1.3 million house. Has never fixed my heating properly. My rent increase is his mortgage payment on preperty number 35. I am not a tenant. I am a revenue stream who gets to sleep here.

If you thought Eric Swalwell sucked as a congressman, just imagine how awful his inevitable podcast will be.

I publicly urged Swalwell to resign three days ago, and his resignation provides some relief and vindication to survivors. We must thank and praise those courageous survivors who risked their reputations, careers, and emotional well-being to protect other women and halt his torrent of abuse. But we also must ask the harder question: for a man long rumored to menace young female coworkers, why did so many powerful people look the other way, and even support him? It is time for a reckoning.

Bill O’Reilly just put Pope Leo on the spot with the one question no one in the media will ask him. And with it, he completely exposed the Pope’s double standard in the feud with President Trump. O’REILLY: “I could mediate a settlement between the Pope and Donald Trump, I could do it.” “But in such a mediation I would have to ask his holiness very frankly…you had 30,000 people gunned down in Iran just a few weeks ago, we heard nothing from the Vatican on that at all.” “NOTHING!” “You have a terror, a government, close to a nuclear weapon.” “Is it acceptable for the Catholic church to look away from that?” “As you know, I wrote Confronting Evil, and the theme of the book is that these heinous individuals, they gain power by people looking away.” “By people not wanting to pay the price, as you put it, for gasoline or food.” “That’s how they get power.” “How would you think that Pope Leo would answer that question? Very simple question.” “Is the Catholic church okay with the mullahs having a nuclear weapon?” “Your holiness, yes or no?” “I’m a Catholic, I’d like to know the answer.” “The Pope will never address that.” “And that frustrates Donald Trump because the Pope is also an open border guy.”

@KeenanPeachy Gomez tried to banish Mahony back in 2013/2014 from public events but Mahony was able to snake his way out of that, he recently attended the installation of San Jose’s auxiliary bishop , shameful

In fact, I first got interested in talking about this stuff years ago when I found out that Los Angeles Cardinal Mahony was living on a North Hollywood Catholic school campus. He's still there, by the way. He's the guy who cost the church its largest-ever single abuse payout: $1 billion.

Getting scolded and shamed for daring to criticize or question clergy and clerical behavior is one of things that led to 40 years of secret sexual abuse. It is *okay* to be a devout Catholic and critique the institution and the people who run it. It doesn't make you a bad Catholic. Being Catholic doesn't mean you must relinquish your brain or your tongue. Francis shut down TLM parishes and told a journalist he "hates conservative American Catholics" - an actual quote. We are free to say what we like and remain in good standing, barring blasphemy or calumny.

I support the ethics committee’s investigation and believe Eric Swalwell is no longer fit to be a Member of Congress. He should be expelled from Congress. I want to be clear: I had no knowledge of the allegations of assault, harassment, and predatory behavior against Eric Swalwell. I trusted someone who I believed was a friend, but it is now clear that he is not the person I thought I knew. The women who have come forward have shown courage. They deserve to be believed, to be supported, and to see justice served.

Israel just dropped bombs on the Shrine of Simon Peter, Apostle of Christ, known locally as Shimon al-Safa, in Shama, South Lebanon — again. Israel had previously bombed the Shrine in December 2024. A sacred site that stood for centuries. Now gone.
