Exciting collaboration with Brookfield, a forest grazing trial in their native woodland after it has been opened up by thinning some trees. Site will be surveyed before + after to assess impact of grazing on the woodland flora. Brookfield calves will try out a cozy living barn!

Deer netting getting installed in preparation for 285m of hedgerow and 1,295 trees. The deer netting is being used instead of shelters/spirals on this windy site to avoid windswept diagonal trees, encourage natural establishment and protect willow leaky dams we planted last month

🌳 💦Hedgerows planted on steep contours & high densities can reduce runoff rates up to 50%, preventing flooding &improving the water quality of our rivers & streams. This is by improving hydrological soil processes: increasing percolation, filtration & evapotranspiration 🌳 💦

OK folks. Really interested to hear your thoughts on this. Wild venison is one of the most natural, carbon neutral (negative?), lean and healthy meats. Deer are accused of destroying plantations and over grazing hillsides. QUESTION: Why do we not eat more venison??

We planted this new hedge 9 years ago and are delighted that this week the laying has started! I’m loving seeing it done and know I’m not alone - good for the hedge, the wildlife, the farm and the soul!

SO delighted to see these beasts in these woods - working hard to improve habitat for capercaillie and other birds like woodcock. Ben and his team are doing a great job learning how to manage the cattle, huge progress in a short time 👏👏
