@LouStagner This is incredible to watch. How does John not get the point that if they use a rolled-back ball players will look to increase their swing speed to gain back the distance they are losing I love when Sasho mentioned Stokes Gained... I thought John's head was going to explode 😂😂

This is a remarkable exchange between the USGA's John Spitzer and Dr. Sasho Mackenzie. Spitzer is the USGA's head of equipment standards. Watching this, it's hard to come away thinking he understands what Sasho is saying. Pair that with the recent news that Cameron Young is already playing a rolled-back ball in competition, and you can draw your own conclusions about the scientific rigor behind the USGA's approach to the rollback. Video should start at 19:05. Watch through 23:36 for Sasho's priceless reaction. youtube.com/watch?v=zNvjFu…

@NicholasMMiller I think this is the reason why Poles wasn't hired. He would not have gone down this road and it seems as though Kwesi did Sometimes we say people have very little power when in reality they just agreed to follow someone else's blueprint (willingly ceding power)

They the proceeded to keep all the old veterans for another year instead of trading them when they still had some value. With hindsight, it’s clear that Kwesi had very little power or interest in being the true analytics GM and that’s when we should have known it would go poorly

Have a hot take that I’ve been sitting on because it will rile certain people up. When Kwesi was hired in 2022, I was so excited because I thought he would lead the Vikings into a analytics revolution. So when they ran it all back with Kirk I was shocked and crashed out 2/

@NicholasMMiller Lost in all of the discussion about what KOC will do at QB is the convo Flo assuredly had re: the offense If he was told it's JJM and a vet do we think Flo felt that was a winning formula with his defense?

Despite recent narratives, the best case scenario for the Vikings is for JJ to take the next step. They’re not going to know that in March, so it would be surprising to me if they do anything that guarantees JJ is on the bench. Geno and Kirk are options to provide competition.

@NicholasMMiller If KOC feels he needs a playoff appearance to keep his job it will likely be a higher upside guy like Kyler or Willis Mac Jones maybe? With a GM in place JJM would likely get a chance to start but KOC with no strings means we see who he likes & how much he needs to win now

@battl2heaven @Krauserrific Geno has been under centre about 11% of the time (a lot of those were at the goal line) Will KOC want to change his whole scheme so Geno can be in the gun?

@Krauserrific Right now I have a feeling it’s gunna be Geno. New Vikings cap guy and Geno and his agent have had a good relationship while in Seattle. We’ll see though. It does sound like they still are leaving an avenue for JJM to legitmately win the job if he can.

@MIvikesfan @NicholasMMiller Something like that would likely work I would think if they trade Addison it's to get the draft capital to trade up for one of the top War's (Tyson, Lemon, Tate etc)

My preferred order of realistic outcomes at QB: 1. Sign Geno after he gets cut 2. Sign Kirk after he gets cut 3. Trade for Geno and get them to eat cap 4. Sign Willis and trade JJ or make him QB2 5. Trade a Day 2 pick for Mac 6. Sign Murray for league minimum 7. Trade for Murray

@Krauserrific @MIvikesfan @battl2heaven I think what Alec Lewis is saying with "Swinging for the fences feels like a must" is that KOC needs to make the playoffs this year And do we really think Flo agreed to come back if he knew KOC's plan was JJM vs Vet competition?

@MIvikesfan @battl2heaven no I don't see that at all there's no path to contend this year unless JJM makes a massive leap the Wilfs gave KOC/BFlo the keys to the team, and that should include an assurance that they'll have a chance to reset at QB, so 2-3 more years

@NicholasMMiller If they trade for Mac Jones is your feeling that it's a competition or does Mac become QB1?

What this essentially boils down to is I'd rather the Vikings let JJ get a chance to beat out a guy like Geno or Kirk, or I want a guy with upside like Malik Willis. What I don't want is to be stuck in mediocrity with Jones/Murray (which is probably why this will happen 😂)

@JoshuaR_Smith Thomas has been retired since 2024 and Pelissero said the hire is "through the draft" Seems like it could be more but likely only helping Brz temporarily

Sure feels like Brzezinski will get the GM job after their “search.”
Ian Rapoport@RapSheet

The #Vikings are hiring Matt Thomas as a football administration consultant, per me and @TomPelissero, and he will assist the team through the 2026 NFL Draft. One of the most respected salary cap executives, Thomas spent 11 seasons as #Seahawks VP of Football Operations. He’ll allow interim GM Rob Brzezinski to focus on the big picture.

@NicholasMMiller Thomas retired in 2024 so he might just be temporary This is a solid plan though through free agency and the draft even if Brz doesn't get the GM role

@NicholasMMiller That is the biggest issue. There is no magic bullet here unless the Bengals decide to move on from Joey B The team is likely looking for a 12th-15th graded QB to get them into the playoffs That's the likely ceiling for them unless they go upside in Willis and he balls out

For those hating on Geno Smith, it's really a process of elimination based on available options. If you remove the potential of them landing a top QB you're left with guys like Kirk, Jones, Kyler etc. I'm not sure Kirk or Jones can operate a downfield passing attack. 1/2
Nick Miller@NicholasMMiller

Some general Vikings thoughts: -It's taken me longer than some, but I think Geno Smith makes the most sense to pair with JJ. How do they acquire him? -I've been saying that the Vikings wouldn't take a first round CB under Flo, but I may walk that back, still think IDL right now

@NicholasMMiller Agreed. But each of the potential QB's has so many flaws it's easy to point to reasons why they wouldn't work Such is the world any team lives in when your rookie scale QB doesn't immediately hit

@NicholasMMiller That risk you're addressing comes from any decision KOC makes re: QB Whether it's JJM, Geno, Kyler, Willis etc it has to work for KOC to see the light of day beyond 2026 That's what's so interesting to me: whatever choice is made, KOC thinks it's the best way to win this year

There are no perfect options, but Geno is based on what KOC is looking for more than anything. Willis could be an option, but he will be expensive and it would also be risky to bet it all on him in a must win year. What option actually makes sense if not Geno?

@NicholasMMiller Kyler worked under centre a lot when Petzing was his OC Geno lives in the gun KOC wants to run play action for the deep shots which makes Kyler more appealing I would think Plus the 50+ sacks Geno takes every year

Kyler has a lot of talent, but he has no history in this scheme, and doesn't attack the middle of the field. I'm not confident he is a scheme fit. Geno finished in the top 10 in PFF passing in 2024 and 3rd in deep passing, has experience in the scheme in Seattle.
