@Haitiancaribbe @JTSaavage Huh. Haiti is literally the oldest modern black republic in the world. Africans generally did not call themselves "African" within Africa until the rise of modern nationalism and pan-African movements in the 19th and 20th centuries.

@Haitiancaribbe @JTSaavage Black Americans were not called African Americans until the late 1980s; before that, most were referred to as Negroes. Even Africans began to call themselves African in the late 19th to 20th century. Haiti is older than modern day Africa
