The Role of Advocacy is Never Easy.
For the last 11 years, I have had the honor of building the Next Generation Action Network from a grassroots movement to one of North Texas’ leading human and civil rights organizations.
Being an advocate means you become the public’s punching bag — so that families and impacted individuals can be shielded, protected, and preserved.
It’s complicated. It’s painful. It’s often misunderstood.
People can focus on my past or criticize my present — but one thing is undeniable:
The future is bright.
I don’t care about the attacks, the noise, or the people who think they know what advocacy should look like. I stay committed because many people depend on our voice.
I’m always open to fair criticism and real conversation — but understand this:
Advocacy is not lawyering.
Advocacy is not chasing attention.
Advocacy is standing in the gap when the weight is too heavy for impacted families to carry alone.
It’s connecting families with attorneys, investigators, and real protection.
It’s carrying burdens the world often never sees.
Let’s also be real about something:
The hate we are fighting against is real — and it’s heavily funded.
Think about what we witnessed just yesterday:
These hateful people have a tour bus, a private certified driver, and they’re traveling across America spreading hate — fully backed by major money and major platforms.
Every time they step off that bus — it doesn’t matter if 10 people or 1,000 people are standing outside — they walk off knowing they will get an average of 75 million earned media impressions.
They thrive not just off who’s standing there but off the media and social media amplifying their message.
That’s why organizations like NGAN must exist — to educate, inform, and fight against these tactics of division.
So when someone chooses to focus on me, understand — I am standing in the gap for a family that is facing a hateful beast so big, even the Metcalf family couldn’t contain it.
You can disagree with me if you want.
But reality is reality.
And the fight is real.
This isn’t my first national case — and it won’t be my last.
But it’s hard when people would rather attack each other instead of having the critical conversations that could push us forward.
To everyone who has stayed focused on the mission, who has reached out, who has kept the main thing the main thing — thank you.
Our mission right now is simple:
Get Karmelo Anthony prepared for trial. Support his legal team. Protect his future.
The press conference the other day was our final one — to dispel lies and refocus the energy where it needs to be.
At the end of the day, we will stay informed, engaged, and unafraid — even in the face of organized hate.
This is bigger than any one person.
It’s about justice, truth, and legacy.

Addressing the Lies and Disrespect
Normally, I don’t waste time responding to outlandish stupidity on social media, but a recent post by Sarah Fields has crossed a line that demands a response.
In her distasteful and misleading post, Sarah Fields accused me of having an inappropriate relationship with former Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall @UReneeHall.
Let me be very clear:
This accusation is not only disrespectful to me — it is outright offensive to Chief Hall, a highly accomplished law enforcement professional who has moved forward in her career and continues to make an impact.
When these baseless rumors first circulated during the summer of 2020, it hurt deeply to see Chief Hall — a Black woman in leadership — have to endure such misogynistic, disgusting attacks. At that time, advisors told me to stay silent to avoid adding fuel to the fire, for her sake. But silence does not mean consent.
I’m sorry, Chief Hall, that you had to experience this.
I’m sorry that in Sarah Fields’ desperate attempt to disagree with me regarding the Karmelo Anthony case, she is now trying to drag others into her toxic mess.
Sarah Fields @SarahisCensored, this is your warning:
Disagree with me all you want.
Challenge my ideas all you want.
But do not attack people who have nothing to do with this case.
Stop — before you find yourself being sued.
This world is already sick enough without people inventing lies to distract from real justice work.
We stay focused. We stay standing in truth. We stay fighting for what’s right — no matter how loud the hate gets.

Today, Karmelo Anthony turns 18.
But this isn’t just a celebration of another year — it’s a moment of reflection on the injustice, double standards, and pain this young Black man has endured far too early in life.
Karmelo should be celebrating the final stretch of his senior year — prom, graduation, and preparing for the next chapter. Instead, he’s facing a legal system that has historically failed young Black men, fueled by media spin, hate-filled attacks, and political pressure that ignores due process and humanity.
Double standards are on full display.
From the treatment of his case in the courts to the harassment his family has faced at their own home, it’s clear: if we don’t stand together, the system will tear our children apart alone.
But we believe in community. We believe in justice. And we believe in standing up when the world tells us to stay quiet.
So today — on Karmelo’s 18th birthday — we’re asking you to give something meaningful:
Donate $18 to his official defense and family support fund.
This will be a long process, and we will need every ounce of support from our people.
Let’s show Karmelo that we’ve got his back. Not just with hashtags — but with real action.
Donate here: givesendgo.com/HelpKarmelo
Share this post. Stand with this family. Speak truth to power.

According to @FoxNews, I’m now “attacking” Mr. Jeffrey Metcalf.
Let’s be clear:
I didn’t attack that man.
What I did was set the record straight — something that clearly threatens those who benefit from confusion and misinformation.
Fox News has been spreading lies about me for days — and this is just another example of their desperate attempt to reshape the narrative based on fiction, not facts.
I don’t have to defend myself when the truth is on my side.
I will not give in to hate.
I will not give in to bigotry.
My ancestors taught me how to face hate and keep moving forward.
They taught me that when the fire comes, you don’t run — you rise.
This is bigger than me.
It always has been.
We must resist.

Happy Mother’s Day.
Today we honor more than motherhood—we honor your resilience. The trials, the tribulations, the silent struggles, and the strength that never gave up.
You are the backbone of justice, the heart of healing, and the voice that carries generations. Your love is revolutionary. Your sacrifices have built bridges for those who come after you.
Though every day is your day, today we shine a special light on your journey, your power, and your unwavering grace.
Your love is protest. Your endurance is power. Your life is purpose.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the warriors in motherhood. We see you. We thank you. We uplift you.

Over a week and a half ago, the Next Generation Action Network held a private press conference at our headquarters to support the Anthony family.
Since then, misinformation has circulated online, and I want to set the record straight.
Jeffrey Metcalf, the father of Austin Metcalf, arrived uninvited. He was not part of the event and was not welcomed. Our staff, along with plainclothes Dallas Police officers already onsite for security, approached him multiple times and respectfully asked him to leave.
He refused.
We didn’t even know who he was until a member of the media identified him. Once we realized his identity, we again asked him to leave. Still, he refused.
It wasn’t until uniformed officers were called that he finally walked out.
Some people online claim he came in peace. But that doesn’t change the facts: he delayed a sensitive press event by more than 40 minutes, ignored repeated peaceful requests, and created a tense situation. This is a pending criminal case, and it was completely inappropriate for any interaction between the families to occur.
Being in pain doesn’t give anyone the right to ignore boundaries or show up uninvited.
The Next Generation Action Network has been around for over 10 years. We’ve learned that part of our responsibility is to prevent harm before it happens. We approached this situation with peace and patience. The choice to escalate was not ours.
We will always put safety first — for our staff, our guests, and the families we serve.
Thank you to those who continue to stand for truth, dignity, and justice.
— Minister Dominique Alexander
