Ted Cruz, 10 years ago today: “I want to tell you what I really think of Donald Trump. This man is a pathological liar...He lies practically every word that comes out of his mouth…The man cannot tell the truth, but he combines it with being a narcissist at a level I don't think this country has ever seen”

Politico found what the report left out. Liberty University's $14 million fine - the report's main evidence of anti-Christian targeting - covered six years of mishandled sexual assault cases and hidden crime data. Students who reported assaults between 2016 and 2022 and whose cases were buried are the reason that enforcement existed. Grand Canyon University's nonprofit fight started in 2019 under Trump 1. Betsy DeVos denied the conversion. The report doesn't say that. It also doesn't say the second Trump administration dropped the GCU fine and killed the consumer protection lawsuit after inauguration. The report accuses Biden of selective enforcement. It is itself a document of selective omission. Every fact that would complicate the narrative - Trump's own ties to these schools, the origins of the enforcement actions, the students the fines were designed to protect - is absent from 200 pages and 1,100 footnotes.

Trump's naïveté: In the weeks before he started his war-of-choice with Iran started, the Pentagon sent the only minesweepers in the region to Singapore. This was proof that the Trump administration had not expected Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz. trib.al/6OL9Q2J

#Orban is gone. The rule that let him sabotage EU foreign policy should go too. After years of Orbán vetoes, 🇪🇺 states hopefully realise they have more to gain than lose by ditching the veto power. Qualified majority needed - starting from human rights: euobserver.com/213543/hungary…

The Voting Rights Act was reauthorized by Reagan and Bush, and enforced by a Republican Supreme Court majority for 55 years. The idea that it was far-left partisan Democratic legislation is just ahistorical.

Journalism is not a crime. Governments should take note. From warring parties targeting journalists in Yemen to a Hong Kong Court’s conviction of former publisher Jimmy Lai, there are steep efforts to curtail free speech worldwide. This is precisely why we must speak out. On World Press Freedom Day, we continue to fight all forms of repression of speech, in all media, around the globe. #WorldPressFreedomDay

2025 was the deadliest year for journalists since @pressfreedom started collecting the data. At least 129 press members were killed last year, and at least 104 of them were killed amid armed conflicts.

NEW: Pope Leo XIV has named Salvadoran immigrant Evelio Menijar-Ayala to be West Virginia’s lone Catholic bishop. As a teenager, he made three attempts to enter the United States illegally. He finally arrived in California in 1990, having been smuggled in the trunk of a car with his brother over the border crossing between Tijuana and San Diego. Over the next several years, Menjivar-Ayala worked janitorial and construction jobs in California before deciding to become a priest. It’s a remarkable choice in a state that is over 90% white and voted for President Trump by 42 points.

John Marck refused to answer Senator @ChrisCoons's question of whether President Trump is eligible to run for president in 2028. This isn’t a trick question – it's in the Constitution. If you can’t say a president can’t serve a third term, you shouldn’t be a federal judge. 🚩

When you’re in charge of the most powerful military in the world, your words matter. Recklessly saying “no quarter” — which is a violation of the laws of war — is one of many reasons Pete Hegseth is not qualified to be Secretary of Defense.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

MARK KELLY: Do you stand by your statement of 'no mercy, no quarter'? HEGSETH: We have untied the hands of our warfighters. We fight to win and we follow the law KELLY: Okay, so you're not clarifying your statement
