On this Solemnity of St Joseph I begin the day at his shrine @carver_street. Praying for all fathers living and departed. Praying in particular for new fathers here in the congregation that they may be great protectors like Joseph. Praying too for my own late father, John and for my brother who shares Joseph’s name. May St Joseph pray for us and for the universal church. #stjoseph

Whilst @gerrylynch is correct in calling out commentators like Damian Thompson. Her gender isn’t incidental to Catholics within the CofE. Nor is her inability to teach on the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. Dane Sarah has failed to a pro life advocate of children in the womb - that is not just a failure in Christian leadership but it is anathema to all right believers.

Great to return to my old primary school - St Oswald’s Netherton, today. I loved visiting class rooms and was able to catch up with the Headteacher, Miss Murtagh. She taught me in year 5 & year 6 and has stayed at the school for almost 30 years. The flourishing of the school today is testimony to her commitment to the community over such a long time (I know she doesn’t look old enough). It was also wonderful to see Mr Glen - who also never seems to age. Now retired, he still takes assemblies and fulfils his ministry as a lay minister. Mr Glen was a pivotal influence on many of us growing up encouraging us in our faith, in our studies and on the orienteering course!

I have only praise for our Royal Navy personnel and civilian teams who worked flat out to prepare HMS Dragon for deployment. What is normally six weeks of work was completed in just six days - a remarkable effort delivered round the clock. The very best of Britain in action.

The final pastoral visit of the evening is to Fr Ommanney’s grave to lay a light and say a prayer. Sometime Master of the Society of the Holy Cross and Vicar of @carver_street from 1882-1936 he died ninety years ago today. He still looks over the city towards his beloved parish.

Here is another beautiful corner of the wonderful Foreign Office HQ. Just because. Sometimes it’s nice to stare at beautiful things. If we are going to use central London real estate to house Govt departments we must be confident in showing it off. We should not be abashed. Let’s be proud of our glorious inheritance.

A great day @carver_street welcoming Canon Paul Hutchins from Manchester as our guest preacher at the 11am. In a stirring homily he reminded us of the significance of the well in ancient Judaism and how Christ in calling the Samaritan woman calls us all to betrothal in the Church - for she is Christ’s bride.

The longstanding friendship between the UK and the Republic of Cyprus is strong in the face of Iranian threats. This morning with Cypriot Defence Minister @PalmasVasilis I discussed how the UK is further reinforcing our air defences to support our shared security.

Remarkable @spectator piece on Starmer's mishandling of the Iran crisis by @ShippersUnbound. Foreign policy by international law is Operation Epic Fail. Not only has Starmer lost Trump; he has also lost the Gulf states. And he has somehow managed to be out of step with Carney, Merz and Macron -- even Albanese.

That’s true Fr. I just would never disparage anyone for taking that step. But we are considering the example of a certain journalist who seems to have an obsession with disparaging the intentions and beliefs of Anglo-Catholics. Often misrepresenting what they really believe from afar. I think that needs challenging by you, and your brother priests. It’s a poor example. There is a lack of charity. The Holy Father has called us to fast this Lent from harsh words and rash judgement. Or does Damian disagree with what this Pope teaches too?

@FatherNaylor It does irk, however, when expediency seems sometimes to have been the reason, and also when the odd disparaging remark floats across the Tiber to those of us who decided that God was calling us to full communion.

Genuine question… is there anyone looking after Damian Thompson pastorally? Looking to RC priest friends - because this obsession feels just a bit unhinged. It makes a terrible advert for catholic faith. X can bring out the worst in us all and I hold my hands up to that. I’m sure he is a better man in person. God bless him.

Why hasn’t anyone resigned? The paucity of defence capability in the Mediterranean is a national embarrassment and a disgrace.
