« During early stages of the FDI [...] an alternative was looked into which would have seen the gun suite being made up by a single 57 mm Bofors in place of the eventual 76 mm OTO, backed up by two 40 mm Bofors guns in the locations now occupied by the 20 mm Narwhal RWS » 👀

Why did Sweden end up with the FDI, do they need a frigate at all, wouldn't buying Swedish be better, what did they change and why, and why can't the Nordics find a common frigate design? All of this, and a picture of HMS Göta Lejon, over on the blog. corporalfrisk.com/2026/05/25/a-f…

Merci à Robin HÄGGBLOM (@CorporalFrisk) de me citer ! « Lengthened FDI on the table, which would add a 9 m long section between the mast and the smokestack. This Jumboïsationwould add space for more Sylver-cells, possibly up to 48 ».

@Nassos83 @Spros71 With 8 x SYLVER including 6 x A70, it becomes conceivable to have a fairly elaborate salvo from very short range to the hypersonic munition interceptors (HYDYS2/Aquila.) of type HCM and HGV which are to be designed and produced.

@Nassos83 @Spros71 but conservative option. The "modular section" was proposed to extend range (fuel capacity, crew size) and allow for a "mission bay." If you disregard this, it seems you could discuss four SYLVER in the "modular section."

@Nassos83 @Spros71 It seems to me that the 9-meter "modular section" wasn't initially designed to accommodate SYLVER. Naval Group's position on this has changed, likely after discussions with several navies. This highlights the fact that two SYLVER in the "modular section" is a seemingly feasible

@Vaqis @CorporalFrisk It's not necessary to demonstrate its feasibility, nor whether or not Naval Group has conducted detailed studies, for the feasibility of the project to be established. The feasibility of an atomic bomb was proven before any of them had undergone detailed studies.

@Vaqis @CorporalFrisk And this lengthening is still being proposed. These are facts. 3) Just because the industrial proposal "surprises" you doesn't call into question its existence or its conformity to the principles of naval architecture.

@Vaqis @CorporalFrisk I'm not sure I understand: are you stating all these things based on verified, cross-checked information, or do you have "doubts" that you could have expressed conditionally and without any affirmation?

@FauteuilColbert @CorporalFrisk My doubts are rational Shafts were already unequal connected to the main center bulk-head, which now would be 9m away from the front 2 diesel-engines and their 2 respective exhaust trunks The simplest would be to add a 3m extention in the bow to fit a 2X8 module 2.3m width SYLVER

@Vaqis @CorporalFrisk As for you, I don't know where you get your claims, some of which surprise me. It's quite common for one propeller shaft to be shorter than the other. I know of an aircraft carrier in this situation...

@Vaqis @CorporalFrisk Naval Group, the designer and builder of the FDI, claims it can lengthen the FDI by 9 meters and that the design is specifically intended for this. This has been confirmed to me by other sources, who confirm that it is still under consideration and probably the simplest method.

@Vaqis @CorporalFrisk Extension using the "modular section" was designed from the outset of the FDI's design by Naval Group. This isn't something I'm making up. And I was recently told again that it's the simplest naval architecture solution for increasing the number of SYLVER.

@FauteuilColbert @CorporalFrisk This is a redesign nightmare that needs massive structural double-exhaust rework with the high-risk propeller shaft alterations, for the forward engine room under the PSIM, which would had to move 9m further from the exhuast chimneys & propelers Best solution extend the bow by 3m
