Anthropic leaked part of its Claude Code source by accident in a release. People quickly copied and shared it across GitHub to analyze how it works. To contain it, Anthropic sent a mass DMCA takedown - but because the leaked repo was connected to a larger fork network, the request ended up hitting ~8,000+ repos, including legit ones that had nothing to do with the leak. They later admitted it was a mistake, rolled most of it back, and restored access - but not before causing chaos across GitHub. Short version: leak → panic → overkill cleanup → collateral damage → “sorry guys”
