My Dad would have turned 82 today. He had a hell of a run. Grateful for the memories we shared and the Man he was.

Kids today will never get to hear Bob Seger belt “Like a Rock” for a 90s Chevy truck commercial. Peak America culture

I’m not saying some don’t serve a purpose, but that does not include once pads are on. Early off-season training that compliments the weight room and plyometrics, sure.

I 100% agree with this take. These types of drills should be relegated to early off-season training. Same with bag (footwork) drills. Speed ladders and ropes too for that matter. There’s a reason we don’t see monkey rolls anymore. IMO, the best way to improve blocking is to BLOCK. Full speed. But suggesting that, in this world of tiny flat pads and biker shorts is absurd, I know. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Geoff Schwartz@geoffschwartz

Feels like a time wasting drill. What is the purpose of this?

@CoachDanCasey @CoachSGirolmo That doesn’t look like the right era. They had a QB (Reggie Perry) who would sign w USC… they were in the I around that time. Played against them 86-89 seasons

X football community questions. What’s your go to football playbook creation tool (software, app, etc). Do you use any other tools to teach or quiz your athletes?

@CoachHaymore This is a core need, in my opinion, and an area that is underserved, especially with smaller staffs or at the youth level. Not intentionally, but by logistics alone.

@FearTheWing But also the information that the kids get might just be a grade (which means nothing to them) or a quick good job or correct this. Needs to translate to the field and their minds. They need our comments quicker!

Despite the varying opinions about Hudl, it has undeniably changed coaching. We can tag. Cut. Label. Analyze. But player development doesn’t happen with video alone. It happens in practice. It happens in meetings. It happens in one-on-one conversations off the field. It happens through the feedback we give players, so they turn what we saw into actionable areas of growth. Are there any tools you are currently using (or would like to use) that help make that communication clearer across your program?
Jim Shapiro@jimshapiro

Old school coach memory. Next time you share your dislike for Hudl. Consider this. It’s Friday night, your game film is on VHS. You gotta stack several VCRs together so you can make copies for your team. 6 hours later, 24 copies made. Then you get up the next day to drive a copy across town to your next week opponent. You exchange film. Head home to make more VCR copies to only find out the scout copy was crap. Some jr high kid shot the film. You move forward with making more copies. Then spend your day driving them around town to your starters.

@JDowdy31 It’s really the essence of coaching. The hard part (especially with smaller staffs) is how to get that communication to every player and not just the few. Where is time drain right now? Grading? Writing feedback? Organizing notes?
