guys the whiplash of coming from corporate to a place that’s actually chill is kind of nuts. Like, what do you mean I don’t have to go through the full 90-day probationary period before I go 3-2 and I can choose my WFH days AND change them as needed?

Hey, I am sure you all remember my post from yesterday and how I asked for gameplay footage in the closing sentence. Well, as it turns out, and on par with the Digimon Up marketing we currently see, we haven’t seen any gameplay being featured, again, but rather have seen a lot of sprites return that we already knew of, with 2-3 being now officially revealed. As I have stated to numerous people yesterday, I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer. I don’t want to throw shade or be negative without reason. I am also not a hype man. I try to see the situation as it is. And it looks as follows: Most people are excited for a new mobile game, one teased as a v-pet alternative for the cell phone rather than through dedicated devices that, depending on the model, are more or less hard to get. We also know that most mobile adaptations of Digimon games are gacha games. Overly monetized games that lock the coolest of Digimon behind high spending requirements. Do we know that it is a gacha game? No, but we can reasonably assume that the tickets showcased as follower-count rewards will act as summoning tickets. Hinting at a gacha-esque game. We don’t know that yet, but it is reasonable to assume. And that is the issue! We only see good-looking sprites, which creates an expectation of a polished game because we often associate good looks with high quality. And we are being rallied by follower-count rewards without ANYTHING substantial backing up this hype. Therefore, I am pleading with Bandai again that we, as a community, want and need to see what we are hyping. Because if there’s too much hype, especially as people drew their own conclusions based on what has been revealed, the realization of the final product being entirely different, or even worse, absolutely mediocre and riddled with micros, will hit even harder. Again, a lot is currently up in the air; we all have many questions. I think those should be answered properly in a timely manner. Otherwise, many people will walk away from this with a sour taste in their mouths. Digimon is on an uptick, the fandom has grown considerably since Time Stranger’s release, so I hope we don’t gamble all that away with a simple cash grab that offers shiny pixels and no substance. So please, showcase actual gameplay footage! And I don’t mean just the combat, but the care features too, and especially the gacha segments. Monetizing an app or game is a given, especially for a big company like Bandai. Projects need to be sustainable and profitable to warrant the effort. I don’t have an issue with that specifically. And while I certainly don’t like micros, there are worse things in this world. I just want to see what this hype is about. Not just see shiny new pixels, but see something substantial. Something that warrants me being hyped. I WANT to take my partner with me wherever I go. I just don’t want to feed into a hype cycle that will be an utter letdown. #Digimon #DigimonUP
