I did it! Diarmuid died when our youngest was 7. I thought I’d never cope alone with two teenage boys and a small girl. But that small girl just turned 18. I can’t believe I got them all to adulthood and they’re just amazing. 27, 25 and 18 now. 😊

@NYCMayor Im I the only one that finds this video disturbing? The zoom shots of his face, ewe. St. Pat's, yes very much an Irish holiday, but moreover its an American holiday that everyone gets together to laugh, sing, drink, eat and enjoy life! He made it sound like a funeral.

A goat in any context is attempting to solve a problem you didn't know you had. The problem is: there is organic matter within reach that has not yet been eaten. This is not a defect. This is the entire point of a goat. A goat is a biological processing unit that accepts as input any plant material in its approximate vicinity and outputs milk, meat, fibre, and fertiliser. It does this on steep slopes, in arid conditions, in rocky terrain, and in weather that has driven other species into cover. The Boer goat. The Anglo-Nubian. The Cashmere. The Toggenburg. The Nubian. Different breeds, same fundamental operating principle: point goat at problem, retrieve protein. The Amalfi Coast is maintained by goats. The Moroccan argan forests are maintained by goats (goats climb the argan trees; this is not a joke; they sit in them). The rocky hillsides of Greece have been managed by goats since before the Parthenon had a roof. There are environments on this planet that produce food through exactly one mechanism. The mechanism is the goat. We are trying to replace this with a vat of engineered mycoprotein in a climate-controlled warehouse in the Netherlands. The goat is in the tree. Staring at us.
