She said her family felt "gaslit" when barristers for each of the accused described their clients as holding family values and wanting to educate their children and create a better life for them. "How dare they speak those words?" she said. "Words they clearly don't live by and that their actions completely contradict." "Our parents worked incredibly hard to provide for us, to ensure we were educated and to instil in us a strong work ethic, integrity and moral responsibility. To sit there and hear those values twisted and used in defence of people who have demonstrated none of those qualities was infuriating. "It felt deeply insulting to Ashling, to our parents and to everything decent families stand for."

What sort of a country tells its fishermen to tie up their boats so foreign vessels can fish their waters? Do you know how much of our own fish we're permitted to catch? 15%. That's the deal our politicians managed to negotiate. The other 85% are reserved for foreign vessels to catch. And it's no small industry - fish taken from our waters annually is valued in the BILLIONS. This issue alone - and of course, there are many others - tells you everything you need to know about the absolute cowards that represent us on the world stage. Would Collins accept a deal like that? Pearse? If Countess Markievicz was in the room when an EU bureaucrat suggested they take 85% of our fisheries, she'd put her revolver to his head. The problem is that these people don't even believe in the concept of the national interest - of putting Ireland first. So they never will.
