@cjsnowdon "Gendered colour." I wish the temperance people would learn something about alcohol. "Pink" Prosecco simply means the winemaking process included Pinot Noir, a red grape. Rosé winemaking has a long and honourable history.

@wblakegray How appalling. Alas, it doesn't surprise me. If you see a doctor in Australia, the top of the form will have questions about exactly how much alcohol you "use". I always write, "50 a day when judging".

I spent all last week in the hospital, being mistreated by young doctors who saw me as nothing more than a "user of alcohol." Something needs to change about alcohol/health messaging. Their indifference to my pain nearly killed me. wine-searcher.com/m/2026/03/alco…

@amwilson_opera Maybe Joachim Fest's memoir Ich nicht? ("Not I" in the English translation.) It's less about art as joyous awakening and more about how his family used art as a shield against Nazi indoctrination.

Friends! A request. I need examples of memoirs/biographies where people (from all and any walks of life) wax lyrical about falling in love with the arts and the joy they take from them. If any spring to mind, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

@cjsnowdon There are so many logical fallacies in this paper, it's hard to know where to start. They seem to think that marketing is a magic demand creation tool, where consumers have no say.

Doughnut economics without the doughnuts. Two of the dumbest ideas of our time - degrowth and ultra-processed hysteria - collide.

@cjsnowdon There are still so many questions around this. Who commissioned the ICCPUD report in the first place?

An attempt to rig the USA's drinking guidelines has backfired spectacularly. Link below.

@FelicityCarter at #wine2wine2025: AI is everywhere in wine. It’s fast and cheap, but without guidance it turns generic. Use it for speed and data: but keep your human voice, expertise, and story at the center. 🍷🌐

@HenryGJeffreys @TheCriticMag Could not agree more. There is a town across the border that has very little going for it, except that it has a French supermarket and it's a WONDERLAND.

Thoughts on Vinicolacainelli’s FitWine? I feel like @FelicityCarter will have something to say about this.

@DnlYn2892212345 Certain grammatical and stylistics quirks (em dashes without spaces, heavy reliance on rhetorical questions and the rule of three, lack of imperfections). It will get more difficult to know.

This is happening with submissions multiple times a week. It's lazy, it poisons the well for harder workers, and if I'm confident that someone is doing it, they are going to be blacklisted. thecritic.co.uk/stop-sending-u…

@HenryGJeffreys @Will___lloyd @yuanyi_z I made the mistake of calling a wine poor value in the Melbourne Age and it caused a furore. The winery wrote to the newspaper to complain, the winemaker wrote to me, and I had a famous wine writer tell me, in no uncertain terms, that I had crossed a line.

@cjsnowdon They're also tying themselves in knots trying to find an inoffensive way of saying "football supporters are working class louts who can't be trusted".

@QuantumOverlord @cjsnowdon There is a study called UNATI being launched in Spain that will be the first randomised control trial. Results are out in 2030.

@cjsnowdon And the problem you have there is the difficulty in controlling for all the confounders particularly if moderate alcohol is perceived as health promoting behaviour (and thus asociated with other health promoting behaviour) as it has been until recently.

@calleymeans @AmyMcGrathKY As an example, if they found a cure for cancer…… How many people would lose their jobs? When you factor how much money has been raised, invested, etc. to research cancer, why is it unique? No cure, in fact it is more prevalent than ever. Why?
