💬 Key takeaways from the discussion:
🟢#DigitalVAWG is on the rise, affecting millions and extending beyond digital spaces into real-life consequences such as loss of privacy, dignity, and self-esteem
🟢There is a growing need to address emerging forms of abuse such as doxxing, non-consensual sharing and manipulation of images, and cultural exploitation including slut-shaming
🟢While @PoliceUg has made commendable progress including specialised police units, digital forensics, and survivor support systems; gaps remain
🟢Under reporting continues due to limited awareness of reporting procedures and available support systems
🟢Existing laws provide a foundation, but there are still legal gaps, especially in fully addressing online-specific forms of violence
🟢Addressing online violence also requires tackling root causes, including harmful social norms and unresolved trauma among perpetrators
🟢There is a critical need to engage men as active allies, not just observers, in challenging harmful behaviour and promoting accountability.
While this dialogues marks the end of our #WomensMonth campaign on ending #DigitalVAWG, the real work begins with strengthening systems, closing legal gaps, and each of us taking responsibility to create safer digital spaces for women and girls 💪🏾
