Tomorrow's new timetable see some changes to Fen Line services. "Departure times have changed to support faster journey times by up to seven minutes – both during peak and off-peak hours." PLUS earlier and later trains on Sunday and some extra services on weekdays and Saturdays.

This Thursday 18th we've partnered with Littleport Town Council to remember James Nightall who lost his life in the Soham Railway Disaster. There's a talk at 10.00 at the Youth and Community Building in town and then at 12.00 at the station a memorial plaque will be unveiled.

Major engineering work will affect journeys between Ely / King’s Lynn / Peterborough and London this coming weekend. The majority of disruption affects travel on Sunday 24th but also some late evening services on Saturday 23rd. Check before you travel at nationalrail.co.uk

Thank you to Network Rail for making FLUA members so welcome when we visited Cambridge Signal Box on Saturday. It was a fascinating insight into how the Fen Line is signalled between Cambridge and Ely for the safe passage of both trains and road users at level crossings too.

Today marks 8 years since the official opening of Cambridge North station. With many stations struggling to match pre-pandemic passenger numbers, Cambridge North has bucked the trend with the latest figures showing a 56% increase in usage compared with 2019.

Go To Town? I did yesterday for the Campaign for Better Transport event at King's Cross and in keeping with the spirit of the event took the bus to the station! Early buses don't always connect with the trains but travelling later meant I had time to get my ticket and a coffee.

Rachel Reeves at Waterbeach station on 9th June. Disappointingly she didn't travel one stop further to Ely and announce some good news on the long overdue work to increase capacity at this strategic bottleneck.

This upgrade would bring so many benefits including more freight moved from road to rail and another step towards an all day half-hourly service on the Fen Line.

Today it's International Level Crossing Awareness Day - promoting the safe use of railway crossings and highlighting potential risks. Always take extra care and follow the instructions when crossing the railway. This is Fairfield Road just north of Downham Market station.

These cyclists on the 08.42 obviously got caught in a downpour and made themselves at home drying out their coats and helmets!

Thanks to Jerry Alderson and his Railfuture colleagues for organising yesterday's conference. With speakers covering plans for a new Peterborough station quarter, open-access operations by Hull Trains and Lumo, and online ticket retailing there really was something for all.

Yesterday saw the return of Class 379s to the Fen Line with a pair of units working the 05.14 King's Lynn to King's Cross and then the 07.12 service back to Ely. Many thanks to Mike Lamport who got up early to take some photo's.

There are still places available for what should be an interesting afternoon covering a wide variety of topics. FLUA will be in attendance and are looking forward to it. The event is open to all and there's no admission fee.

Our event to mark 50 years since the reopening of Watlington station was very well supported. Special thanks to Kate Carpenter, one of the committee which led the campaign in 1974, who cut the celebratory cake.

As part of Railway 200, on Monday 5th May we're celebrating 50 years since the reopening of Watlington station. At 11am we'll be cutting a cake and unveiling some commemorative plaques.

Congratulations to King's Lynn for coming first in the East of England regional round of the World Cup of Stations. Voting takes place on Thursday for the Semi-Finals. Let's help get the Country Line Buffet to the next stage....
