A Nigerian woman who moved to Ireland a year before we tightened our citizenship rules has been appointed as the Vice President of Fianna Fáil. Uruemu Adejinmi was co-opted onto Longford Council in 2021 and then became Mayor a year later. Over the weekend she was appointed as VP, despite not even seeking nomination. The party founded by Éamon de Valera now has a Nigerian Vice President.

Remember her name: Victorine Dartois, an 18-year-old French girl. She mysteriously disappeared after an evening out with friends. After days of searching, her lifeless body was found in a body of water, pants pulled down. That night her path crossed with Ludovic Bertin, a repeat offender, son of immigrants, with 10 prior convictions for theft, robbery and drugs. He saw her alone, dragged her to a secluded spot and tried to rape her. When Victorine fought back, he beat her brutally (the autopsy revealed numerous internal injuries), then drowned her, left her body there and fled. He later admitted he had gone out specifically “to hunt for a victim to rape.” He was arrested and sentenced to life in prison and cannot apply for parole until he has served at least 20 years.
