Shameful and disgraceful treatment once again of nursing home residents. We all know this is happening and still no real effective action from government. Care of older persons clearly not a priority.

We hear stories like this every day, a parent or family member speaks up to protect their child/ parent only to face retaliation and a wall of silence. This is exactly why we are fighting for an independent safeguarding authority. We cannot allow the HSE to 'independently' oversee itself, nor can we trust HIQA to lead the way. HIQA has repeatedly closed the door when families and or staff contact them, stating they 'don’t deal with individual complaints' while hundreds of red flags go ignored., We saw the consequences of this inaction on Prime Time last year, neglect and cruelty allowed to flourish under their watch. The Minister for Health has one job to get this right. We need an authority with real teeth, mandatory reporting, and a legal right of entry to ensure no one is left behind closed doors. The HSE cannot be allowed to investigate themselves. While some of the policy is welcome, without independence and transparency what will change? @CarrollJennifer @kodonnellLK @SimonHarrisTD @MichealMartinTD

She never lived to see this moment, but it’s worth remembering that none of this would have happened without Virginia Giuffre. She had the courage to speak out against power & privilege when it was just her word against Andrew’s. Thanks to her, justice may finally have its day.

BREAKING: Kayla Schultz, the woman who got the closest video of Alex Pretti’s killing from her car, speaks out for the first time. She says she will not be intimidated because that’s exactly what ICE wants from all of us. The moment you show you ARE intimidated is the moment they attack. Source @CNN

The cost of electricity is now so severe for people with disabilities that one advocate has warned someone could suffer serious harm or even die from the crisis. Disability groups have renewed their call for “immediate” emergency winter payments of €400, saying people cannot wait for a Government pledge of a disability payment from 2027. This follows numerous findings, including from the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), that these costs amount to “52% to 59% of the disposable income of households with disabled members”. Carolyn Akintola lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and uses a wheelchair, among other challenges. “My biggest fear is that people are going to continue cutting back on heating, and my gut feeling is we will see a death,” she warned. Damp is a particular worry for people who may already have respiratory illnesses, she added. #Disability #CostOfLivingCrisis #EmergencyPayment #CareChampions irishexaminer.com/news/arid-4178…
