At @k1000cruises in #YGK we're adding to our crew of professional marine navigation officers. Know someone with boathandling experience, or currently holding a TC Mate or Master over 60 Tons or higher certification? Message me here on Twitter, or visit: 1000islandscruises.ca/marine/

For Codex, we’ve been thinking about keeping a stable release cadence and have a larger release each week on Thursday. That does make the start of the week and bit less exciting. Thoughts?

@thsottiaux Excited to see progress but: the gap between Codex/5.5 and any recent version of Claude is truly huge for front end. Claude is now able to one-shot nearly every internal tool we make and its moments of UI whimsy and design coherence are inspiring. 5.5 makes 2016 android apps.

Why is no one talking about this? @nvidia is offering around 80 AI models via hosted APIs absolutely for free. You get access to MiniMax M2.7, GLM 5.1, Kimi 2.5, DeepSeek 3.2, GPT-OSS-120B, Sarvam-M etc. This plugs straight into OpenClaude, OpenCode, Zed IDE, Hermes agent and even with Cursor IDE. Setup: – Grab API key: build.nvidia.com/models – base_url = "integrate.api.nvidia.com/v1" – api_key = "$NVIDIA_API_KEY" – select model (e.g. minimaxai/minimax-m2.7) If you’re building or experimenting, this is basically free inference. Lock in and start building today anon. Thank me later.

@sama Sam, I have a question: what would you do if Dylan Scandinaro were to recommend shutting it all down. Completely, and immediately. Would you do so?

At @k1000cruises we sometimes do offers on specific dates, but it's rare that we publish an everything-on-sale discount code; if you're thinking about a 2026 Dinner Cruise, you can be nearly certain this is the lowest price it'll go on sale for: ktic.ca/blackfriday #ygk

@sama Sam, I think it's more broken than you think. After a few crashes and "model not found" errors, I'm now getting "you've reached our limit of messages per hour" having received *zero* successful replies all day. But, status page says you're fully operational...

Wanted to provide more updates on the GPT-5 rollout and changes we are making heading into the weekend. 1. We for sure underestimated how much some of the things that people like in GPT-4o matter to them, even if GPT-5 performs better in most ways. 2. Users have very different opinions on the relative strength of GPT-4o vs GPT-5 (just the chat model, not the advanced reasoning one). This is a cool thing you can try: x.com/flowersslop/st… 3. Long-term, this has reinforced that we really need good ways for different users to customize things (we understand that there isn't one model that works for everyone, and we have been investing in steerability research and launched a research preview of different personalities). For a silly example, some users really, really like emojis, and some never want to see one. Some users really want cold logic and some want warmth and a different kind of emotional intelligence. I am confident we can offer way more customization than we do now while still encouraging healthy use. 4. We are going to focus on finishing the GPT-5 rollout and getting things stable (we are now out to 100% of Pro users, and getting close to 100% of all users) and then we are going to focus on some changes to GPT-5 to make it warmer. Really good per-users customization will take longer. 5. The team is doing heroic work to optimize our systems and find more capacity, but still, we are looking at a severe capacity challenge for next week. We are still deciding what we are going to do, but we will be transparent with our principles. Not everyone will like whatever tradeoffs we end up with, obviously, but at least we will explain how we are making decisions. Thanks for your patience with us; we will continue to react and improve quickly!

@robert_kiley It's reasonable to reject the word "broken" here. The subtle "everything is an ongoing project" point you're making is not at all how Poilievre uses the word "broken". The result is that a lot of people working hard to actually act on our potential are brushed aside.

Concurrence. Two things happening at once. Canadians working in their incredible, awesome ways. A system not delivering as it should, or at least as it could. We can be at once broken and full of potential. Good and bad. Grey. Not black and white.
Raghu Venugopal MD@raghu_venugopal

My ER shift finished at 2AM but it was insanely busy so I stayed until 7AM. I'm not special. That's what Canadians do. We rally. So don't ever tell me Canada is "broken". We dig deeper and do what needs to be done even when we are tired. Every sick patient was rapidly attended.

If Trump, Pence, and Bridenstine had been serious about a 2024 lunar landing back in 2017, they would have designed a program around Falcon 9/Heavy, Delta IV Heavy, and Orion. And we’d be on the Moon today.

@anerdguynow And video files were totally hopeless, because h.264 et. al. didn't exist yet so the .avi files were absurdly huge. CD-RWs were lifechanging.

Back in the 90s, we used to share mp3s on floppy disk. But since they were commonly larger than the disk could hold, you'd use a program to split the file into 1.4 MB chunks, spread it out over several disks, and then use the same tool to recombine them to the original file.
