11:03 - ask @Fern_Labs agent to make a video call site for our afternoon weekly 12:13 - get a link. jump on with 3 others from the eng team. fern built this using the @levelsio route - shh-ed into a VPS, then just shared the link with us. it was 0 latency/lag/buffer over the 20 min call (3 in london, 1 in new york) had screen sharing, and recording to saved to your device this is from scratch - no external services, no templates. literally just raw vps and fern, took ~an hour. cc @KenjiPhang @TofunmiKupoluyi

Fern agents build a fully working Slack clone with full audio call! Zero latency London -> Japan. Required ~10 minutes of user prompting, ~5 hours of agent work. Done from scratch, no templates. Realtime video call next up.

We often use "Make Slack" as an internal benchmark. Absolute joy as I'm in Japan this week to get a ZERO LATENCY AUDIO CALL on a Fern-built Slack clone from the @Fern_Labs team in London! This is a full end-to-end private hosted audio call, built entirely by Fern agents! This full Slack clone took Fern 5 hours (with ~10 mins input time from the user) to build from SCRATCH. NO templates. NO special prompting. Pure Fern agents that work. I asked Tofunmi, our cracked engineer who made this, how long it took him, how much he had to prompt. "Oh prompting, maybe like 10 minutes in total, taken ~10 round trips, should've been ~7 though, prompts have been really short i.e. "... isn't working"" t-minus 3 weeks till we deprecate our Slack? We'll open-source the full repo when we do if your org would like to host your own - comment below if interested! @Fern_Labs agents built this entirely from scratch with @flydotio.

i want to build a dead simple site where anyone can list a house to sell for free. no gatekeeping, no fees, no bs… just a way to bypass all the useless agents. you see something you like, you text the owner directly. cut out the middlemen. make real estate human again. someone tell me why this idea is regarded?

Here's the result of a 3 hour, completely independent agent session (i.e. NO human input apart from the initial prompt). We needed a remote interviewing tool (we're hiring!) - something where we could collaborate on coding concepts with people remotely - highlight different parts of code, etc. This isn't easy, requiring sockets/ide setup/testing in multiple browsers. Fern produced (and deployed) the below in ~3 hours. This was prompt -> product with 0 human intervention. We found a couple minor bugs, but a great v0! More examples to follow of what's possible with long running agents.

App Spotlight: Reading Comprehension Exercise Generator Great app made by a teacher. It's hard to find good targeted reading comprehension materials for middle schoolers. Fern made an app that creates texts, questions, and answer schemes that you can print out to use in class! Prompt to live app took ~20 minutes. We'll now be generating similar apps for IB/A-level/AP, ping if you have other ideas!

RIP Tumblr 🪦 All-in, it cost me $15 in Claude credits and about 3 hours of my time to migrate off Tumblr and onto a custom blog. I am more and more convinced that people and companies are going to be able to point an LLM at an existing SaaS product and simply say "build me a version of this site". If software is built for n=1 users, it can be super simple. Adding hundreds of configuration options to support thousands of different use-cases is what makes software bloated and difficult to maintain. If you're only building for yourself, you can get away with <1% of the code.
