@tayvano_ @familiarcow @THORChain It's up to the interfaces to decide what (and "if") to block. They are, usually, the ones that are not so decentralized. Protocol, be it @Bitcoin, @Ethereum or @THORChain should stay neutral.

So, to be clear, my biggest objection to this shitshow is that people are building / shilling a thing that, objectively speaking, has made it significantly easier and cheaper for thieves to bridge from eth to btc, this same thing isnt really providing a huge amt of value to legit folks, and the builders / shillers are either actual fucking money-hungry pyschopaths who are fine facsilitating theft or blissfully naive (or both, i suppose) People celebrating the fact their thing is helping hackers + harming good faith players is absolutely appalling. It has got to stop. It reflects badly on this entire industry, it disincentives good-faith people from contributing even more than they already are, and it emboldens the thieves and launderers. Now, in terms of things that can be done, you and the other 500 reply guys saying "herp derp nothing can be done blah blah blah" are dead ass wrong. Sorry. But youre being lazy and stupid. Further, contrary to popular belief, I NEVER ONCE implied or proposed making the system permissioned, blocking txns before they’re initiated, or freezing txns during execution on a case-by-case basis (though these would be extremely easy, effective, and implementable in a way that eliminates the risks yall fear most but whatevs) But, seriously, here's the deal guys. You have a problem. Thieves are throwing super stolen ass funds that are tagged up by the 1000s of ETH without any cost or fear. This will continue to get worse and worse, just as we have been telling you that its going to get worse and worse for the last few months. The way you change this is to 1) increase licit flows 2) decrease illicit flows. I assume youve been trying #1 and will continue to so I'll focus on decreasing the illicit flows. To decrease illicit flows you must to increase costs to attackers by 1) increasing the real or perceived risk to the malicious actor 2) adjusting the entire system design to make it more expensive ($ wise, time wise, resource wise, whatever) for the malicious actor (though, obvs, this potentially does the same for non-malicious users as well which obvs should be avoided as we want to both increase licit while decreasing illicit, duh) Thorshit specifically has completely fucked #1 by marketing themselves loudly as a libertarian wet dream even though the demographic of people who actually care about that theoretically OR gain value from it in reality remains v small and its abundantly clear that if you actually want to create value for a critical mass of people you’re going to have to be a fucklot more than “decentralized”. So that’s frustrating in itself but mostly bc that mindset actually prevents any ideation around #2. There’s a ton of interesting things in #2 but unfortunately no one bothers even thinking about them bc theyre too busy screaming moral justifications abt the harmful aspects of thorshit instead of even thinking about DOING fucking anything. Stop spending more time dancing around trying to prove you arent bad, start spending more time being less fucking bad ffs. As example, how many legitimate people could ever find value if throwing 1000 ETH in a single transaction to BTC? Well, considering that the number of addresses holding more than 1000 ETH is like <7000 total…..yeah….ummm….hmmmm…there’s your total addressable market. Except, well, how many of those whales who *could* potentially do that, *would* actually do that? We're talking about ETH whales who want to push 1000+ of their ETH to BTC in a single transaction. That's your actual market. As of today the answer is 0. In fact, the answer is 0 even if you decrease the number from 1000 ETH to 100 ETH. Meanwhile in the last couple months there have been 41 txns for a total of 27,146 ETH, all of which were hackers moving stolen af funds. Now imagine a world where the max ETH->BTC size is 100 ETH instead of limitless. What happens? Well, firstoff, nothing changes for legitimate users. Nothing at all. They literally dont notice. For the hackers, well, they split their shit up and send it over in 100 ETH batches ofc. But that doesnt mean its not worth implementing just bc they will ultimately get around it. It's still worth implementing bc 1) it literally doesnt remove value from any legitimate people 2) it shows you give a fuck and dont want to knowingly provide services to thieves, especially sanctioned as fuck thieves lolol 3) it increases the cost and effort and time the hacker has to put into their shit which means they have less time to hack/launder/harm other shit 4) it prevents the stupidest and laziest hackers from being able to even use you bc they cant/wont initiate 100s of txns 5) it creates risk bc you've just increased the number of things they have to do correctly by like 1000x. Maybe they fuck up, maybe they copy paste the wrong address 1 of the 200 times they now have to copy paste addies that they didnt before, maybe their script glitches and they send to 0x00 or something. And you might think thats farfetched but tbh these hackers aren far less invincible than people make them out to be. DPRK fucks their scripts all the fucking time. They forget about entire addresses and lose $100k or $1m just like that, they bridge back to ETH instead of onto Arbitrum and get frozen, one time their script glitched and just kept opening new limit orders to buy like 0.000001 USDT instead of starting to bridge the $1m USDT they had just swapped into. They lost like ~$1m + the entire nights laundering sesh just like that. Another time a hacker was draining a wallet and he fucked up his nonces bc he decided to try to execute a manual txn via his retail wallet while the rest were via CLI and the victim was able to rescue $200k that wouldve otherwise been stolen. Regardless, my point is, when you do things that make hackers lives harder, you increase costs and you *create* risk and, most importantly, you promote a culture that actually isnt okay with thieves. And that last part truly is the most important bc this fucked ass culture is by far your biggest threat. This posture is, frankly, insanely disgusting. Worse than Tornado tbh and they had some v choice comments early on that certainly didnt win them any defenders in DC. There are more than a few feds and regulators who will take great pleasure in showing Thortards explicitly that its possible for Thorswap to reduce the amt of illicit funds going thru its platform, just like they did to Tornado. And it doesnt matter if they are ultimately wrong or stupid, it doesnt matter if CoinCenter writes all the fuckng blogs in the world, none of that matters if youre fucking dead. When you are dead you arent even providing theoretical value. Just like TC. rip.
