@ethio_style True! I see two bits. First ones are young creators who might not get the spotlight if they choose the traditional channels and ways are now utilising the platform properly. And there are the abusers who are there 24/7 exploiting the algorithm and people’s emotions.

@Fevenc You're right, this is probably to appease the conservative corners of society. I'm not a fan of the TikTokers and what they represent by any stretch (the few that I have seen), but arresting them is ludicrous.

TikTok creators have been good to the government. They are assiduously apolitical. Their content creates an illusion of normalcy in a society going through monumental trauma. So why go after them? Seems plain stupid :/ bbc.com/news/articles/…

“ሰው አይሆንም ሲሉኝ ሰው አረገኝ ጌታ፥ ወገን የለው ቢሉኝ ሆነልኝ መከታ፥ እንዳሰቡት ሳይሆን እንዳሰበልኝ ነው፥ ገና መቼ አዩ ይሄ ጅማሬ ነው።” ~ ዳግማዊ ጥላሁን #Update on PhD Thesis Submitted Last July, 2025 Finally, the long-awaited outcome has now reached me just yesterday.  After over two months of meticulous reviews by External Examiners assigned by the University of Pretoria @UPTuks, my Doctoral Thesis – into which ‘tears, blood, and sweat’ (to borrow Winston Churchill’s words) were invested for the past 6-7 solid years, is now given a loud, bright, green-light of ‘PASS’ by ALL the three External Examiners, with only a few minor amendments to be made in the next few weeks. This Thesis passed through COVID-19, the sudden death of my initial Supervisor in 2021 – the late and irreplaceable Professor Christof Heyns with whom I started and successfully defended the Research Proposal in September 2018 (may his amazing soul rest in eternal peace), a change of supervisor which complicated several matters of the long journey, and above all, the recent and ever-so-painful passing of my own Dad – my shield, source of courage, and one of the very reasons I was doing this PhD for (as anyone in the family knows, he always used to call me ‘Dr. Dagnachew’ since I was a tiny little boy surviving polio – a condition I contracted at just 5 months after birth). I desperately hoped – even after his heart-shattering diagnosis of terminal illness confirmed by his doctors last year – that he would live for me at least some more months to see that his dream has come true. It was his incredible tireless effort for decades, and unwavering belief in education (together with Mom, although both had barely been to school themselves, as is the case with many Ethiopian parents) that got me to this day. His passing has nearly made me lose myself; the past 7-8 months were the darkest in my whole life. An unbearable grief, solitude, and – as if that wasn’t more than enough to deal with - the shenanigans you witness within family members after a parent’s departure made me almost detest life itself. But here we are, God has a Reason for every Season. Both myself and my mother, the only treasure I am now left with, have learnt to remain #grateful as the cruel tests and sources of despair built up. God saw it all, hence never left us alone to deal with this fierce battle, which we could not, cannot, and will not be able to do so. Quoting the late and legendary Ethiopian intellectual Professor Mesfin W/Mariam from one of his timeless Amharic books called “አገቱኒ፦ ተምረን ወጣን” (2008 ዓ.ም.), he had a whole chapter titled “ክፉ ቀን ጥሩ ነው።” (“Painful, gloomy, and testing times are invaluable as it is those days that enable us learn and grow. Those seasons are our unparalleled teachers as human beings."). And in the Words of Paul and Job of the Holy Bible “… Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making a new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace" (2 Cor. 4:15-18). "... He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold" (Job 23:10). Well, Dad, what you envisioned for your son decades ago, against seemingly insurmountable odds and colossal walls of deep-rooted stigma, prejudice, and astonishing levels of societal ignorance about disability, is approaching its fruition, even if it was never easy, not even for a single day. I do hope that you are smiling in Heaven. 🙏🏿💔 “For I alone know the Plans I have for you, declares the Lord…” Jeremiah 29:11 "For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, systems, and against the powers of darkness in this world..." Eph. 6:12 God is good, faithful, all the time, regardless of what you may happen to go through. More to come soon, gratefully. #ሃይል የእግዚአብሄር ነው። #ማዳን የእግዚአብሄር። #ጥበብ የእግዚአብሄር። #DisabilityJustice #TheDutytoRespect #TheDutytoProtect #Disability_Based_Violence #DBV #InclusionWins

Every great thing must come to an end. Today marks Day 14 of our incredible 4th cardiovascular mission to Ethiopia. As of yesterday, we have touched the lives of 163 patients — and we’re planning to complete 4 more open-heart surgeries today! None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary collaboration between our local and international teams and the support of @FMoHealth @flyethiopian Until next time — thank you all ❤️ 🙏 @HeartAEthiopia

@metishewyilma @mulugetaermias1 Many EU counties issue Alien passport for refugees as a travel document especially when they couldn’t get a passport from their home countries. Not sure if we have a similar policy in ET.

🌟 Heart Attack Ethiopia - 3rd Mission: Day 3! 🌟 Our incredible team of volunteers along with the medical professionals at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH/Black Lion Hospital) and nearby Cardiac Centre Ethiopia (CHFE) continue a life-saving collaboration effort. The team working at TASH had a particularly difficult primary PCI case that lasted 3 1/2 hours. At the Cardiac Centre Ethiopia, the day in the OR started with a 24-year-old suffering from mitral stenosis. Dr. Obsinet Merid and Dr. Sisay Bekele provide this update from CHFE. #cardiovascular #ethiopia #heartattackethiopia #mission #volunteer #nonprofit #medical #donate @mmamas1973 @TTelila @drmerid @PMEthiopia @FMoHealth @flyethiopian @ChalaFekadu12

@eyobderrick @alemayehuGeda 🫨 with a straight face you showed how confidently damn you were. If you don’t wanna be challenged then don’t use universally accepted terms like inflation instead stick to “how you afford eggs and carrots this month” ….btw good for you.

@alemayehuGeda to hell with your expertise i stopped buying eggs last month because of its high price. this month i started buying again , that is what “inflation” mean for me. i can confidently tell that is also what it means for the many average people.

inflation seems to be easing a little, starting this november. eggs are now around 10 birr each, down from 15 birr just a few months ago. carrots have dropped to 40 birr per kilo, compared to around 75 birr before. onions is also showing slight decreases in price.
